Widows

What's the story? From Academy Award-winning director Steve MCQueen ('12 Years a Slave') and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn ('Gone Girl') comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. 'Widows' is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar winner Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. 'Widows' also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.

The Grinch

What's the story? For their eighth fully animated feature, Illumination and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss' beloved holiday classic. The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it's a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to the infamous Grinch, who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. With a cave rigged with inventions and contraptions for his day-to-day needs, the Grinch only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food. Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh. Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who, a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer, plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheming threatens to collide with the Grinch's more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos' holiday cheer once and for all?

Peterloo (expanded release)

What's the story? An epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter’s Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history. The massacre saw British government forces charge into a crowd of over 60,000 that had gathered to demand political reform and protest against rising levels of poverty. Many protestors were killed and hundreds more injured, sparking a nationwide outcry but also further government suppression. The Peterloo Massacre was a defining moment in British democracy which also played a significant role in the founding of The Guardian newspaper.

What's the story? Fourteen-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry—a housewife and a golf pro—in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job—and his sense of purpose—he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother's struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.

Sarkar (Tamil)

What's the story? Sarkar (English: Authority) is an upcoming Indian film starring Vijay, Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Yogi Babu and Radha Ravi. The film is directed by A. R. Murugadoss, co-written by Jeyamohan with music composed by A. R. Rahman, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, edited by Sreekar Prasad and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner Sun Pictures. The film began production in January 2018, and is scheduled to be released in November 2018, coinciding with Diwali.

What's the story? Vijay Krishna Acharya , the writer-director of the all-time Yash Raj Films blockbuster DHOOM:3, teams up once again with Aamir Khan in THUGS OF HINDOSTAN along with Amitabh Bachchan to give the audience a never seen before experience of larger than life filmmaking. This YRF film holds a double bonanza by bringing together Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan together for the first time ever. That in itself, is film lore in making. The film is set to treat audiences across age groups with the biggest jaw-dropping action sequences seen by audiences on screen to date. MET Opera 2018: Marnie (Saturday 10th November, 5.55pm)

What's the story? A young woman lies, cheats, and steals her way through life, propelled by compulsions she can neither control nor understand. A wealthy man catches her red-handed and blackmails her into marrying him. Will the truth about her past send her to jail or set her free? Based on the novel that also inspired Hitchcock's celebrated thriller, composer Nico Muhly's Marnie was co-commissioned and co-produced with the English National Opera and receives its U.S. premiere at the Met this season. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard stars in the title role, opposite baritone Christopher Maltman as her husband. Costume design is by Madonna's collaborator of twenty years, Arianne Phillips, who created every item seen on stage in this stylish, vivid production.

Bolshoi Ballet 2018: La Sylphide (Sunday 11th November, 3pm)

Entranced by her beauty, James risks everything to pursue an unattainable love... La Sylphide is one of the world's oldest surviving ballets, and a treasure in the Danish Bournonville style. Restaged for the Bolshoi by Bournonville expert Johan Kobborg, this production is the ultimate romantic masterpiece.

ROH Royal Ballet Live 2018: La Bayadere (Tuesday 13th November, 7.15pm)

What's the story? Marius Petipa's fantasy, set in legendary India, tells the tale of a temple dancer and the prince who loves her but marries another. The famous, moonlit 'white act' – The Kingdom of the Shades – is a corps de ballet highlight, as multiple images of the prince's lost love haunt his mind. The choreography allows two opposing ballerinas to shine, while a bronze idol comes vividly to life in a stunning solo. Throughout, the melody and moods of Minkus's music perfectly match the fluidity and precision of the classical choreography and the drama of the storytelling.

RSC Live 2018: Troilus and Cressida (Wednesday 14th November, 7pm)

What's the story? 'Lechery, lechery, still wars and lechery: nothing else holds fashion'...Troilus and Cressida swear they will always be true to one another. But in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested, and exposed to the savage corrupting influence of war, with tragic consequences. Virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie collaborates with RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran to create a satirical futuristic vision of a world resounding with the rhythm of battle. The Greek army is encamped under the walls of Troy and, at the point at which the play begins, the war has reached stalemate. The Greeks are quarrelling amongst themselves. Achilles, their greatest champion, refuses to fight and has withdrawn to his tent with his lover, Patroclus. Equally at odds with themselves, the Trojans are debating the value of continuing the war merely for the sake of keeping Helen. Troilus is much distracted from these military concerns by his love for Cressida, the daughter of a Trojan who has defected to the Greek camp. The young lovers are eagerly assisted by Cressida's uncle Pandarus, who acts as their go-between. However, after only one night together they are parted when Cressida is sent to join her father in the Greek camp. Almost immediately she betrays Troilus with the Greek Diomedes and, discovering this, Troilus is plunged into despair. With the fall of Troy certain, Troilus vows revenge on Achilles.
