James Gunn-produced superhero-horror movie Brightburn has screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members. This inversion of comic book tropes imagines what would happen if Superman were a bad guy, as a young alien child realises his destructive and terrifying super-powers. So what did the Unlimited crowd make of it?
We'll start with this from Deryck Fullerton who says the movie delivers on its creepy potential.
Although I spent the majority of the film in a heightened state of anxiety, #Brightburn was good - go see it (*if* you don't have a weak bladder or scream like that woman from the Catherine Tate show at the merest hint of a noise!)

Cheltenham Cinematic are among many who praise the movie's level of inventive nastiness.
#Brightburn #UnlimitedScreening at @cineworld tonight was a awesome & terrifying at the same time, a ‘What if…’ story of a Man of Steel who doesn’t want to save the World, human beings are beneath him. Supernatural Sci-fi Horror. (not for the screamish)

Chris is another viewer who makes a point of singling out the gore.
Well, #Brightburn is very silly, a unique twist on the genre, flashes of brilliance and some particularly gruesome scenes. I was genuinely surprised that it didn't end how I had imagined it would though. #CineworldUnlimited @cineworld

Sir Dan Mumford says there are possible allusions to future movies contained within...
#Brightburn #UnlimitedScreening was excellent IMO! Great alternative take on a certain story we already know, with a very creepy and sinister feeling to it! Love the hints to other alternate bad guys too! @Brightburn @SonyPicturesUK @JamesGunn @cineworld

Claire Witney says the scariness of the movie caught her off guard.
Absolutely loved #Brightburn Much more graphic than I expected and had some genuinely good jumps

Bill Curzon praises the central performances.
Very entertaining Horror with two excellent lead performances from Elizabeth Banks and David Denman. #CineworldUnlimited

However, Jeremy Cramp wanted the story to be better fleshed out.
It was a great concept/idea. Just needed fleshing out more, with a better script as it just had the bare bones of a story and I wanted to know more. Fun though to watch. 3/5. #Brightburn

And Townie says that although they found the film enjoyable, the plotline was somewhat predictable.
Interesting Premise. Gruesome kills. Could have done with a rewrite to make a few things stand out and be unique as it’s been all done before but nonetheless a fun film
