Cineworld Unlimited members: are you looking for a palate-cleansing alternative to explosive action and popcorn munching spectacle? Then we've got the answer in the form of our Unlimited screening of Eighth Grade, previewing in advance on 8th April.
This tender and truthful coming-of-age drama was one of the darlings of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. First-time director Bo Burnham, perhaps best known for his appearance in 2017 comedy hit The Big Sick, is a former musician and comedian turned film-maker, and has received much praise for his story of awkward teen Kayla (breakout star Elsie Fisher).
While navigating the final week of her eighth grade year in middle school, Kayla must also grapple with the problems that come with being an adolescent. As she dishes out advice on her own YouTube channel, Kayla prepares to wave goodbye to her childhood while anticipating what comes with being a grown-up.
The movie has been acclaimed by critics. Rolling Stone's Peter Travers lauds it as "a flat-out triumph", adding, "first-time director Bo Burnham's tender take on teen angst... is both indelibly of the moment and achingly timeless".
