Don't forget that riveting drama Luce screens in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members on 29th October. This is your chance to get the inside track on one of the year's most thought-provoking and troubling dramas, which is bound to leave you with a myriad questions.
Talented Kelvin Harrison Jr. (star of It Comes at Night and the forthcoming Waves) plays Luce Edgar, a young man who was saved from a war zone and adopted by a comfortable, white, middle-class American couple. Oscar nominees Naomi Watts and Tim Roth (reuniting for the first time since 2007's Funny Games) play Luce's loving parents, who appear to have done a perfect job in raising their son.
And yet, Luce's history teacher Harriet (Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer) becomes convinced he has something to hide. Her suspicions are fuelled by a disturbing school essay Luce pens on the necessity of violence, but her concerns are dismissed by both the parents and school. Does she have an axe to grind, or is there something dangerous bubbling away beneath the impressive veneer of this star athlete and student?
Luce played at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival where it received critical acclaim. Writes Benjamin Lee in The Guardian: "It's a drama that moves like a thriller with a stark, uncomfortable score and a series of seat-edge confrontations both heating up a difficult debate over trust, expectation and racial stereotypes."
