Morbius gets its final trailer ahead of its release date on 31st March. It's the next instalment in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, picking up the mantle of Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The question, however, is this: will it connect to Spider-Man: No Way Home? Lest we forget, the Tom Holland blockbuster (which has just overtaken Titanic at the domestic box office) is connected to the adjacent Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Morbius already appears to have several threads connected to the MCU, starting with the presence of Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes/Vulture. He appeared in the MCU movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland's solo Spidey debut, and the imprisoned Toomes shows up again here to give advice to Jared Leto's afflicted title character, Michael Morbius.
Toomes' role in the wider storyline remains unclear. We already know that Morbius is a brilliant scientist wracked by a genetic blood condition. When he ventures to the far side of the world to seek out a cure, he finds himself blessed, or cursed, with vampiric abilities and superstrength. Never a bad thing when Matt Smith's nefarious Loxias Crown shows up to create trouble.
The latest trailer hints at the background between Morbius and Crown, suggesting they were once friends brought together by virtue of sharing the same disease. What's put them on separate courses? That remains to be seen. There's also a brief appearance from Jared Harris as Morbius' mentor, plus Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson as the law enforcement agents closing in on Morbius' nocturnal activities.
Check out the trailer ahead of Morbius' release in Cineworld cinemas on 31st March.
