Get ready for a Cineworld revolution at Cineworld Edinburgh because ScreenX is coming on 2nd July. This is a momentous event – it's the 13th ScreenX auditorium in Cineworld and the first of its kind in Scotland, so here's what you need to know.
What is ScreenX?
ScreenX creates a 270-degree viewing experience for the audience, the world's first multi-projection cinema technology that expands the traditional cinema screen to the side walls. Moviegoers can go "beyond the frame" of the movie screen by being at the centre of an expanding image for an expansive viewing experience. Put simply, you're not watching the film, you're in it.
How does ScreenX add to the movie experience?
ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection theatre technology that provides moviegoers with a 270-degree viewing experience by expanding the screen onto the side walls of the auditorium. It crafts a fully immersive experience that pulls you into the world of your favourite films like nothing before.
The innovative technology uses an array of projectors and with proprietary ScreenX software, blends multiple images into one seamless image extending from the central screen out. ScreenX walls are installed with a fabric to ensure brightness and colour closely match the content on the main screen and extend the length of the auditorium. Strategically placed audio systems and speakers ensure that sound does not compromise the immersive viewing experience.
What are the upcoming ScreenX blockbusters?
The day of Edinburgh ScreenX opening coincides with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, so what better way to welcome Tom Holland's wall-crawler back to the big screen? Or if you're after something spooky, opt for Conjuring Universe horror movie Annabelle Comes Home on 10th July, which reunites us with cinema's freakiest doll.
