DC's The Suicide Squad gets a fresh injection of crazy courtesy of director James Gunn. The filmmaker is a dab hand with oddball ensemble movies, having helmed the two Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel (the third is on its way). And yet, by the sounds of it, The Suicide Squad is unfettered, gloriously gruesome and wonderfully rude in the way that the Guardians movies could only dream of. Not convinced?
Here are some initial reactions to the film, which pairs franchise stalwarts Margot Robbie and Viola Davis with a bevy of new faces including Idris Elba, John Cena, Peter Capaldi and Sylvester Stallone.
I can tell you that @SuicideSquadWB is TOTALLY INSANE and insanely cool. It’s ballsy, unpredictable, funny, incredibly violent, but ALIVE with the uncompromised vision of a gonzo auteur, @JamesGunn. Suddenly, I love rats? Must see in @IMAX opening weekend. pic.twitter.com/eD39kijCWN

What Gunn does great is he makes you care about so many obscure characters (just like in Guardians). The difference is that he's allowed to pull the rug out from under you and kill whoever he pleases bc it's not a Disney film.
