Over the past few years, director Tim Burton, the man behind classics such as Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood, has largely been working in the big budget arena with the likes of Alice in Wonderland.
However his latest, Big Eyes, marks a return to more personal territory, and is the recent recipient of three Golden Globe nominations. The film explores the true story of artist Margaret Keane (Amy Adams) and the legal battle she encountered with her husband Walter (Christoph Waltz) over the ownership of her famous, big-eyed paintings.
I caught up with both Burton and Waltz ahead of the film's release to get their thoughts on the film's story and characters.
