Captain America: Civil War is very nearly here and no Marvel fan should miss this movie. According to co-director Anthony Russo, the film will have a "very dramatic ending that will be controversial for a lot of people." #OMG!

We’re guessing that not everyone in Civil War makes it out alive, and so the events of this movie will have a devastating impact on the next Avengers film, Infinity War Part 1, due out in 2018.

Captain America: Civil War pits Cap (Chris Evans) against his old ally Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), and alongside them are most of Marvel’s gang of cinematic superheroes. But which ones are Team Cap and which are Team Iron Man? One thing’s for sure – things will never be the same again for the Avengers.

Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has said that Civil War is the conclusion of the Captain America trilogy that began with The First Avenger, and we know there’s no next solo film planned for Iron Man ("There isn’t one in the pipe. No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man," Downey Jr said recently), so what does all this mean? Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we understand it about to change beyond recognition? We look at where we think Civil War will take Marvel’s mightiest heroes…

Captain America (Chris Evans)

Will this be Chris Evans' last outing as Steve Rogers AKA Captain America? In the comics, Cap's friend Sam Wilson AKA Falcon, becomes the new Captain America after Steve Rogers' retirement. So is Falcon actor Anthony Mackie about to don the red, white and blue?

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr)

As much as we love Robert Downey Jr, he is now 51 and getting a bit long in the tooth. He's been playing Iron Man for eight years now and so maybe the time is right to retire the golden Avenger and then recast once the dust has settled. The setting up of new Avengers at the end of 2015's Age of Ultron (the final shot suggested that War Machine, Vision, Scarlet Witch and Falcon would be joining the team) suggests that some the old guard will be leaving soon. Is Robert Downey Jr's time up?

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)

Black Widow has only ever guest starred in other superhero movies (both Avengers films, plus Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier), so there’s probably much more story to tell for Scarlett Johansson’s ass-kicking Ruskie. Which is good, as Black Widow is still one of only two female superheroes in Marvel’s big screen line-up, so we think her chances of surviving are pretty high.

Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)

Well, he's got only film behind him and we know that a sequel – titled Ant-Man & The Wasp – is currently in pre-production, so the signs are good for the little fella surviving this film and possibly joining the Avengers at the end of it.

Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)

When Jeremy Renner was first cast as Hawkeye all those moons ago in the first Thor movie, he wasn’t such a big name. But since then Renner has become a bona fide Hollywood star, and so it’s a bit odd to see him still playing second fiddle to all these more prominent superheroes. He’s yet to get his own solo movie, and he was woefully underserved in the first Avengers film, so will Renner want to jump ship?

War Machine (Don Cheadle)

The trailer suggests that it doesn’t end well for Iron Man's BFF. But is he dead or merely very injured? Time will tell…
