Cineworld are delighted to be one of the hosts of the 62nd BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express. Running from 10th to 21st October, it's one of the most auspicious events in the global filmmaking calendar.

This year, we're hosting a wealth of Hollywood A-listers at our Leicester Square cinema, bringing film fans some of the most exciting new releases, many of which are already generating Oscar buzz. Here's what you need to know.

Special gala screenings

Cineworld are proud to host three of the biggest galas at this year's festival. We kick off on 10th October with the OPENING NIGHT GALA of riveting heist movie Widows, from 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen and Gone Girl author-screenwriter Gillian Flynn. Oscar-winner Viola Davis leads the cast of this gritty thriller about four bereaved women who continue the criminal activities of their recently deceased husbands, with the all-star supporting cast including Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell and Daniel Kaluuya.

Then we have the AMERICAN EXPRESS GALA of The Favourite, the deliciously twisted new period black comedy from The Lobster director Yorgos Lanthimos. Olivia Colman gives a standout performance as the ageing Queen Anne, whose sympathies are manipulated by court favourite Rachel Weisz and new arrival Emma Stone. Gloriously nasty and very funny, it's another triumph from a director who specialises in the surreal. The screening takes place on 18th October.

We then wrap everything up with the CLOSING NIGHT GALA of Stan & Ollie, the affectionate and warmhearted tribute to the legendary comedy double act Laurel and Hardy. Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly give uncanny performances as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in the waning days of their careers, nailing both the sense of melancholy and the physical mannerisms that transformed them into cinematic comedy gods. Stan & Ollie closes the festival on 21st October.

An exciting line-up of movies

Get ready, film fans, because Cineworld are hosting a dazzling line-up of must-see films, ranging from dry comedy to explosive horror and much more. 

In addition to the above gala screenings, we've got the creepy remake of classic horror Suspiria, directed by Call Me By Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Then there's the Coen brothers' typically offbeat Western anthology The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, blending their characteristic wry humour with moments of pathos and violence.

Elsewhere, Timothee Chalamet and Steve Carell give standout performances in heart-wrenching drug addiction drama Beautiful Boy, Amandla Stenberg confronts racism in her community in The Hate U Give and Michael Moore tackles the Trump administration in his latest combative documentary Fahrenheit 11/9.

Additionally, Hugh Jackman excels as scandal-blighted politician Gary Hart in Jason Reitman's The Front Runner, and Chris Pine is Scottish leader Robert the Bruce in Outlaw King, from Hell and High Water filmmaker David Mackenzie.
