Amidst all the blockbusting hype over Spider-Man: No Way Home, we're already looking ahead to the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). That movie is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the long-awaited sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange.
Following his appearance in No Way Home, the Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) again takes centre stage, and he's beginning to contend with the truly frightening possibilities of the multiverse. This should be catnip for director Sam Raimi whose horror background (Evil Dead et al) should inject surreal menace into the concept of alternate realities.
The first poster and teaser trailer have been revealed for Multiverse of Madness. The official Disney synopsis describes it as "a thrilling ride through the Multiverse with Doctor Strange, his trusted friend Wong and Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch." Strange's allies are played, as before, by Benedict Wong and Elizabeth Olsen, the latter of whom reprises the traumatic and emotional character arc that has been extended through the acclaimed series WandaVision.
