It seems strange now to think that War burst on to the scene almost six years ago, but Siddharth Anand’s action blockbuster ended up being a cultural phenomenon and one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time.
Well, if you’ve been wondering what Major Kabir Dhaliwal (played by the ever-muscular Hrithik Roshan) has been up to since the events of the film, you’ll be glad to know that a sequel is about to hit a Cineworld near you.
The aptly named War 2 will take us back to the high-stakes world of espionage that Kabir inhabits, but this time around he’s got N. T. Rama Rao Jr hot on his tail as Special Units Officer Vikram, who has a personal vendetta against the rogue agent.
You can see from the trailer below that War 2 seems ready to outdo its predecessor in almost every way, with more intense fights than before, including a hair-raising brawl atop an airplane in mid-flight.
There are plenty of ways in which you can enjoy the film at Cineworld, with screenings in IMAX, Superscreen and 4DX, so you can choose how intense you want the action to be, although true adrenaline junkies will find exactly what they’re looking for in a 4DX seat.
Make sure to book your tickets now to be one of the first in the country to watch War 2 when it debuts on August 14th. If your memory of the first film is a little hazy then allow us to serve you a quick recap before you dive into its sequel.
War recap
In an elaborate game of cat and mouse, War pitched Captain Khalid Rahmani with the task of bringing in his mentor Major Kabir, after he goes rogue and defects from the agency that trained him.
The chase takes Khalid around the world with locales including Marrakech and Lisbon, but eventually he is forced to put his mission on hold and team up with Kabir in order to subdue a greater threat… at least, that’s what we originally thought to be the case.
After this detente is solidified, Khalid is actually revealed to be Saurabh, a mole within the agency who became an imposter when the real Khalid was killed in action, using plastic surgery to make his face indistinguishable from Khalid’s.
In a double twist, we discover that Kabir had recognised him as an impostor earlier on, and the reason why he defected from the agency was to draw out a mole that he knew was working somewhere in its ranks.
In a climactic final battle, Kabir is able to take down Saurabh and remove his face to ensure that the real Khalid’s legacy isn’t tarnished. In the final scene, we see Kabir enjoying some much needed rest in Australia before being contacted by the agency for some unfinished business.
Only time will tell if Kabir is able to make his way back to the agency, or if he’ll be continued to be recognised as a rogue agent who needs to be captured, but you’ll have to book tickets to War 2 to find out what happens.
There are also plenty of other South East Asian and foreign films headed to Cineworld, so make sure to free up your calendar to catch them all.
