Though Bollywood is seen by some to still have the edge, Tollywood has risen to become a powerhouse. With the Telugu film industry rivalling Bollywood, the plot of its latest much-anticipated movie, Peddi, is like a neat metaphor. Peddi is an athlete who rises through his power, defends his village, and competes for it.
This action sports film stars Ram Charan, who is one of the highest-paid actors in the Telugu film industry. And with the film reportedly the most expensive Telugu film, you could say it’s Ram Charan’s blockbuster. Which goes well with his nickname of ‘Mega Power Star’.
Tollywood does gasp-worthy visual effects, and the trailer teases plenty of them, with slo-mo stunts and muscular prowess all on show. That’s got to be worth seeing on an IMAX or Superscreen, and the good news is Peddi is showing in both.
What’s Peddi about?
The story is inspired in part by real-life events. Peddi is every villager’s favourite sporting hero. He’s trained, competed, and proved his worth, and when it comes to tournament pitching rival villages against each other, Peddi is their man. Cricket, wrestling, running, he excels at all, and they trust him to win the contest; the village’s reputation and safety rest on it.
