Set your coordinates to infinity and beyond, because Lightyear arrives on Cineworld screens this summer. Captain America himself, Chris Evans, voices the square-jawed inspiration for the eventual Buzz Lightyear toy as seen in the Toy Story movies. And the movie looks exactly what we'd expect from the bods at Disney-Pixar: lush visuals, potentially scene-stealing supporting characters and plenty of exciting action.
Evans' character Buzz is stationed on a faraway planet where the colony is regularly harassed by massive tentacled aliens. The movie details Lightyear's first manned mission into space, replete with plenty of sly visual nods to 2001: A Space Odyssey (the presence of David Bowie on the trailer soundtrack doesn't hurt either).
For all of Buzz's heroic qualities, we're expecting that his robotic cat employee Sox, voiced by storyboard artist Peter Sohn, will steal the show. The film is scripted by Inside Out Oscar-winner Pete Docter and directed by Angus MacLane who graduates from Pixar short films to his fully-fledged directorial debut. Combine all of that with the inherent Toy Story heritage, and there's more than enough to tickle the nostalgic joy of kids and adults alike. We're also anticipating the sure-to-be-joyous tone of the score from composer Michael Giacchino who won an Oscar for Up (no, we still can't listen to 'Married Life' without sobbing).
Check out the new Lightyear trailer below. The movie is released in the UK on 17th June.
