Anthony Hopkins continues to fire on all cylinders with his starring role in the moving One Life. Following his second Oscar win, for dementia-themed drama The Father, Hopkins takes on the mantle of British humanitarian and war hero Sir Nicholas Winton.
Winton gained attention later in his life when it was revealed that, as a younger man, he had helped formulate the 'kindertransport' network. While visiting Czechoslovakia just prior to the onset of World War II, Winton was moved and horrified by the plight of Jewish children suffering under German occupation.
He then vowed to save as many as he could, resulting in one of World War II's most remarkable acts of bravery. The unassuming Winton kept his achievement under wraps until his appearance on Esther Rantzen's TV show in the 1980s brought his story to wider public attention.
Hopkins plays the older Winton and Johnny Flynn the younger iteration in a sure-to-be-powerful drama that possesses an excellent supporting cast including Jonathan Pryce, Helena Bonham Carter, Samantha Spiro, Lena Olin and Romola Garai.
The film, based on the biographical If It’s Not Impossible…The Life of Sir Nicholas Winton by Winton's wife Barbara, arrives at Cineworld on January 1st, 2024. Watch the first trailer for your first impressions of a film that's all but guaranteed to become an Oscar contender.
