Don’t miss your shot – 7 reasons to go and see Hamilton on the big screen for its 10th anniversary

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a decade since Lin-Manuel Miranda’s all-singing rapping musical, charting the life of one of America’s Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton, debuted off-Broadway. It quickly transferred to Broadway proper, performed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and opened on the West End in London just a couple of years later at the Victoria Palace Theatre with other productions taking place around the world.

Returning to the big screen, you’ll want to be in The Room Where It Happens when Hamilton screens at Cineworld at the end of September. In fact, You’ll Be Back for more once you’ve seen it once, screening on the 26th, 27th, and 28th of September.

Witness the phenomenal original cast

Even if you booked tickets to New York City right now, you wouldn’t be able to catch the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jonathan Groff tearing it up on stage performing Hamilton.

While all the casts that have slipped into the characters’ shoes since are equally as talented, there is something special about seeing the cast that did it first, especially the seemingly endless talent of Miranda.

The filmed version delivers that exact Broadway production to the big screen at Cineworld, with Miranda playing titular character Alexander Hamilton, Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Soo as Eliza, Goldsberry as Angelica, and Groff as King George III.

Rise up and get the premium experience with a Hamilton Superscreen experience.

Hamilton is told through Non-Stop rap

Much like Les Miserablés and Evita, Hamilton is what is referred to as a ‘sung through’ musical. This means the whole story is told through song with little to no spoken dialogue. Of course, where Hamilton differs is it’s not simply song but rap!

Those who might not think musicals are for them, then, may find the hip hop, R&B, and soul influences Lin-Manuel Miranda drew from when composing the music for the show more appealing. Really, it’s a feat to behold!

You’ll be Satisfied without having to travel far to watch Hamilton

While Hamilton has gone on tours around the UK, it might be some time before it returns to a theatre local to you. If you want to watch Hamilton on the stage anytime soon, your best option is to make the trek to London’s West End.

Of course, nothing can compare to the experience of witnessing a production like Hamilton live and in-person, but being able to go see such a successful, beloved show at your local Cineworld is definitely a great workaround. It’ll definitely save you a bit of cash, too.

History Has Its Eyes on You (Hamilton) and its diverse casting

Hamilton is a beautiful celebration of diversity, not least because of the inspiration it takes from black-dominated art spaces like hip hop and rap. Add to that Lin-Manuel Miranda made the intentional choice to have black, Latino, and Asian actors cast in the roles of the white historical figures to reflect the America of today.

Speaking to New York Times, he said, “It’s a way of pulling you into the story and allowing you to leave whatever cultural baggage you have about the founding fathers at the door.”

It’s award-winning for a reason

Don’t want to take our word for it, you should know that Hamilton received awards across its different productions, from its time off-Broadway to its West End and Australian shows. Earning eleven Tony Awards in 2016 including for Best Musical and Best Original Score, Lin-Manuel Miranda also won a Pulitzer Prize, as well as the musical earning a Grammy Award for the Best Musical Theater Album category.

There’s something for everyone in Hamilton

The plot of Hamilton is packed full of everything you could want from a three hour show. Obviously, it’s laced in history, so not only is that a big tick for anyone into historical stories, it’s also educational. One to take the kids to?

There’s also romance and plenty of drama, with a violent showdown or two to top it all off. The songs are catchy, the dance moves are slick, and the cast are brilliant. What more could you want?
