It’s been a while since we were served a new (shaken, not stirred) James Bond movie, with 2021’s No Time to Die seeing Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007. Since then, speculation has been rife.
This year there have been some significant developments as Amazon closed a deal to take charge of the franchise, while Dune’s Denis Villeneuve was confirmed to be directing and Peaky Blinder’s creator Steven Knight set to write the script. Who will play Bond remains a mystery, though? Considering GoldenEye, Pierce Brosnan’s first movie as the iconic spy, is celebrating 30 years since its release, there would be no better time than 2025 to make an announcement. And we asked you who you’d like to see.

Names in the news for the next James Bond
Many names have been thrown into the ring, including Idris Elba and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, though the 28 Years Later star appears to be rejecting the clean, suave look of MI6 agent with a recent outing seeing him sport wild facial hair and curly locks during Venice Film Festival.

Other considerations by the public have been action man Glen Powell, who will be doing a whole lot of cardio in the Stephen King adaptation of The Running Man come October. Both he and fellow Yank Austin Butler were quick to deny any interest in the role, though.
Powell told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond […] Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”
Echoing Powell’s sentiment, while promoting Caught Stealing in the UK, Austin Butler said, “I’m American. I can do an accent, but that would be kind of sacrilegious.”
Though he did say he'd be keen to play a Bond villain...
Who do you want to see as the next James Bond?
We asked you on X who you’d like to see cast as the next James Bond, following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps.
Craig was all aboard the Aaron Taylor Johnson train, as well as The Monkey’s Theo James and Richard Madden, whose role in the 2018 BBC show Bodyguard would be perfect training for a role like Bond.
I honestly think a one-off Brosnan as an elder statesman Bond as a bit of a palette cleanser wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Obviously it would have to lean heavily towards the vehicle stunts as opposed to fight scenes though. After that, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is my top choice.

Imran isn’t opposed to an American infiltrating the notoriously British role, and puts Saltburn actor Jacob Elordi into the mix.

A more rough around the edges Bond? Picture this… Tom Hardy.
Tom Hardy. Will be a good bond.

We’re not sure we could ever unsee him as Superman, but Lee suggested throwing Henry Cavill into the mix, while Daniel weighed in on Scottish actor Jack Lowden.

A là Doctor Who with David Tenant, both Ricardo and Rob are all for the return of Pierce Brosnan and, honestly, we don’t hate the idea. A little palette cleanser before someone sparkly and new joins the franchise.

It remains to be seen who will actually be cast as the next James Bond. While we wait with bated breath, though, why not treat yourself to a trip to Cineworld to watch GoldenEye as it returns to the big screen to celebrate its 30th Anniversary!?
