Six the Musical is one of the most energetic and endearing shows of the last decade, and if you haven’t been able to catch any of the previous screenings at Cineworld then you’re in luck – there’s one more opportunity to do so on August 25th.
For those not in the know, the titular ‘Six’ are the collective group of Henry VIII’s wives, who are finally given a chance to tell their story, with plenty of heartfelt moments all weaved together with a soundtrack that’ll have you bopping along from start to finish.
Even though Six the Musical first started out as a production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it has gone on to find worldwide critical acclaim with iterations making their way to the West End, Broadway and even a cruise line (look it up if you don’t believe us).
The show is very much a cultural phenomenon and if you haven’t already seen it then that’s something you need to rectify quickly. Even if you have been lucky enough catch Six at the theatre, there are plenty of reasons why you should dive into a rewatch at Cineworld.
Here are just three reasons as to why you need to clear your schedule and book yourself a set of tickets to see Six the Musical on final time at your local Cineworld.
It’s a great re-examining of history
King Henry VIII is one of the most prolific figures in British history, and understandably so, but it does mean that with most of that time period framed around his rule, the women who stood by his side have been cast under quite a large shadow over time.
While it does take some liberty with historical fact, Six finally offers up an opportunity for the voices of these six women to be heard and for us to get a better idea of what life might have been like to be married to someone who had a notoriously bad temper and was easily swayed by fits of anger.
We all know the fates that befell these women but Six gives us a chance to dive deeper into who they were when they were alive, with their hopes and aspirations. Plus, any opportunity to learn something through the power of entertainment is just too good to miss.
The songs are bops
One of the reasons why Six is such a worldwide hit is down to its catchy soundtrack. For their theatre interpretation, each of the main six characters have been partially modelled on a famous singer or two, with Catherine of Aragon taking a cue from Beyonce, while Anne Boleyn owes a fair amount of inspiration to Avril Lavigne.
This characterisation feeds its way into the soundtrack as you get a collection of songs that move from one genre to the next. You’ve got pop, disco, power ballads, rock anthems and more thrown into the mix, so there’s definitely something in there for everyone. There’s a good chance that you’ll be singing at least one of the songs on your way out of the cinema.
Seeing it in the cinema is a totally different experience
Stage musicals are always great fun but with a streamed performance you’re getting a far more visually arresting experience as the camera moves from one angle to the next, making the whole thing feel far more exciting.
Of course, the cinematography also goes hand in hand with the high picture and sound quality that Cineworld provides, so no matter where you sit in the cinema, you’ll always have the best seat in the house. Plus, it almost goes without saying but the ability to have a bag of popcorn and other cinema-style treats as you settle in for the screening, only amps up the enjoyment.
If all this is starting to whet your appetite for a great musical experience at your local Cineworld then make sure to book your tickets to the final screening of Six the Musical while you still can.
