Disney’s Snow White (showing now)

Coming 88 years after the classic animation Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney's Snow White is a live action reimagining that stars West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as her nemesis the Evil Queen. With a bunch of new songs complementing favourites from the original film, it’s a feast for the whole family.

BOOK DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE TICKETS

 

A Working Man (showing now)

Co-written by Sylvester Stallone, David Ayer’s action thriller sees Jason Statham playing a construction worker whose skills as a former Royal Marine are called upon when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped by people traffickers. Like Taken but with an English accent, A Working Man will have you on the edge of your seat.

Nate Caine (Jack Quaid) has a very unusual condition: he’s unable to feel pain. That comes in very handy when the bank worker’s colleague and love interest (Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage by a gang of robbers. With charm, humour and action by the bucketload, Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s Novocaine is a sure-fire winner.

The sequel to 2019’s Lucifer – but conceived as a standalone film – Prithviraj Sukumaran’s globe-spanning action thriller centres around the leader of a global crime syndicate (Mohanlal) and the authorities’ attempts to bring him down. Epic in scale, and stunning in its execution, L2: Empuraan is a real cinematic achievement. (In Malayalam)

Directed by Bong Joon Ho (Parasite), Mickey 17 is a dark sci-fi comedy that sees Robert Pattinson taking on a new job as an “expendable” – a role that’ll see him dying in multiple different ways and subsequently replaced by clones of himself. However, things go wrong when one of the clones doesn’t actually die, meaning two of them end up existing side by side…

Jared Hess’s long-awaited adaptation of the global gaming phenomenon stars Jack Black as Steve, a master crafter who’s called upon to help a group of misfits return home when they’re unexpectedly transported into the Overworld. Packed with action and comedy, all set against a spectacular CGI backdrop, A Minecraft Movie is a must-see for families this spring.

When a father and daughter (Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega) accidentally kill a unicorn in a road accident, they find themselves being stalked by the dead creature’s angry parents. Surreal, barmy and downright hilarious, Death of a Unicorn went down a storm with Cineworld Unlimited members, and we reckon you’ll love it too.

Officially the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Yu Yang’s fantasy adventure has been lauded by viewers and critics alike. Combining spectacular visuals with an absorbing storyline sourced from 16th-century Chinese mythology, Ne Zha 2 really needs to be experienced on the big screen.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam) and featuring a screenplay by debutant Sam Stefanak, this psychological horror focuses on a widowed mother (Danielle Deadwyler) and her two children whose lives are turned upside down by the sudden arrival of a mysterious shrouded woman. With nerve-shredding jumps and a plot that keeps you guessing, The Woman in the Yard is a must for fans of the genre.

A lonely care worker’s peaceful existence is destroyed by the arrival next door of an anti-social hedonist in Jed Hart’s revenge thriller. He soon finds out, though, that there’s only so much you can poke a hornet’s nest before you get stung. “A mesmerising, wondrous example of animation’s potential” is how Empire’s John Nugent described this wordless eco-fable from Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis. Telling the story of a cat that has to team up with a ragtag team of other animals to escape a catastrophic flood, Flow is at once beautiful and thought-provoking.

Michael Fassbender stars as an intelligence agent whose mission to uncover the source of a devastating leak is made more complicated when one of the chief suspects turns out to be his own wife (Cate Blanchett). Directed by the ever-reliable Steve Soderbergh, Black Bag is intelligent, riveting – and one of the best spy thrillers you’ll see this year.

The Amateur (showing from 11 April)

Based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel of the same name, The Amateur sees Bohemian Rhapsody star Remi Malek playing a CIA cryptographer who vows to get revenge when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. It may be only James Hawes’ second feature film, but this slick, pacy thriller is as expertly handled as anything we’ve seen recently.

Widowed mother Violet (Meghann Fahy) is on a date when a mysterious phone message instructs her to kill the man sitting opposite her at the table – or her family will be murdered. Described on Rotten Tomatoes as “a Hitchcockian thriller that cleverly utilises modern technology for its twists and turns”, Christopher Landon’s Drop is a true nail-biter.

The Penguin Lessons (showing from 16 April)

Steve Coogan and a penguin? What more could you possibly want! Directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) and based on a true story, The Penguin Lessons is an endearing comedy drama that sees the Alan Partridge star playing a boarding schoolteacher in Argentina who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a penguin after rescuing it from an oil slick. As you might expect from a Coogan film, laugh-out-loud moments abound.

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a soldier in an actual combat situation? Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland’s film provides the answer. Based on the former’s experiences as a Navy SEAL during the Iraq War, this gripping drama follows a group of US commandos in real-time as they embark on a daring mission through insurgent territory. Harrowing and poignant in equal measures, Warfare is an experience you’ll never forget.

Set in the Deep South during the 1930s, Sinners centres around two brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) who return to their hometown to escape their troubles, only to discover a much greater evil waiting for them when they get there. One of the year’s most talked-about movies so far, Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror has been described as “scary, sexy, gory and horny”. You have been warned!

Gavin O’Connor’s follow-up to his 2016 action thriller, The Accountant 2 sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as an uber-smart assassin. This time around, he and his lethal brother (Jon Bernthal) are tasked with solving the murder of a Treasury Agent’s close friend. But as they get closer to the truth, they find themselves being hunted by a gang of ruthless killers…
