Last night Unlimited members had a date night with Cineworld as we screened Materialists for the first time.
Materialists follows professional matchmaker Lucy as she finds herself deciding between the perfect man, the wealthy, dashingly handsome Harry, and her old flame, struggling actor John.
The A24 romantic comedy, directed by Celine Song and starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, arrives in the UK on 15th August, but you can get a taste of whether or not Unlimited members found Mr Right with all their thoughts below.
With all the charm of an early noughties romcom, one reason we’ve been particularly excited about finally watching Materialists is its take on modern day dating. Rose-tinted through the lens of Hollywood, Celine Song has still delivered on the hard reality of how truly dire it can be – but in a fun way! That’s how X user Sarah felt after catching the Unlimited screening.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. So well written & more of a romantic drama than a romcom. Shines a light on the harsh realities of dating, relationships & love. Dakota, Pedro & Chris were all wonderful. Can’t wait to see it again.

And Alex agreed. Honestly, there’s nothing we love more than post film ~feelings.
Recency bias, yay those right after the film feelings. But 10/10. I feel like it summed up modern dating, material love, real love, all the feelings. Worth all the hype it was getting easily 👌

Name a better feeling than a movie taking you pleasantly by surprise, or outdoing your expectations? That was the case for many Unlimited members when watching Materialists at Cineworld.
Fantastic! Trailers did not do it justice, enjoyed it a lot more than I had expected to! Celine is 2 for 2!

Loved it! Had more depth to it then I was expecting and really delivered on the romance - can’t wait to watch again!

It was the same for Sue, who also loved the free merch. Enough of an incentive to join Unlimited and head to the next screening? We think yes!
Enjoyed #Materialists more than I expected. All 3 main characters were great, though any film with Pedro Pascal in it is fine by me. Loved the free #Unlimited25 tote bag, badge, and metal pin, too 👍

Those hoping for a classic romcom might get more than they bargained for. In the best possible way, Materialists outdid the parameters of the genre, pulling on our heartstrings in matters of the heart.
Absolutely beautiful. More of a meditation on love and romance than a romcom, a richly woven reflection on relationships, the dialogue was top notch and the performances spot on. Loved every minute of it. Best film of the year for me. And the smartest

Really enjoyed it, had comedy/romance/heart, all what a romcom needs to have, but not your ordinary romcom movie! Chris, Dakota, and Pedro were really good in it. The matchmaker had a choice to choose between two different guys and made the RIGHT one! 5/5 what a great ending.🙌🏽💯

It was unconventional for a romcom right from that opening but still had some sweet corny moments you expect from the genre I loved the leads and it’s a charming film that was watchable but dark in places but I guess could be realistic for dating and marriage

What's the sign of a successful romcom? It got us in our feels and believing in love again.
That third act got me believing in love (and life).

We are biting at the bit to see the new Celine Song, especially knowing how much Past Lives tore us to shreds. Coming on 15th August, be on standby to book your tickets and sign up for Unlimited in the meantime.
