Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical is on release now at Cineworld cinemas. This delightful adaptation of Tim Minchin and Denny Kelly's stage musical, itself based on Dahl's classic book, skips onto the screen in a joyous frenzy of toe-tapping songs and outsized performances.
Newcomer Alisha Weir plays the bookish and bright Matilda Wormwood who finds herself pitted against her monstrous new headmistress, The Trunchbull. The latter is played by a memorably nasty Emma Thompson who embodies that quintessential Dahlian notion of grown-ups being inherently more obscene and obnoxious than children.
Matilda the Musical is one of the biggest family releases of the season, filled with humour and heartwarming moments. We caught up with Alisha, Emma and Andrea Riseborough, who plays the amusingly appalling Mrs. Wormwood, to discuss their prep for the movie's exhaustively staged song and dance numbers. They also kindly take the time to answer the questions that Cineworlders put forward for them. Check out our interviews below.
