Cineworld Unlimited members were given a special treat on Tuesday (May 9th) as we invited them to a showing of epic drama The Eight Mountains. Directed by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, this Italian adventure tells the story of two men who grow up together in a remote Alpine village and then reconnect years later as adults.
After making its debut at the Cannes Film Festival last year, The Eight Mountains has been subject to limited screenings worldwide, and there are no plans for a wider Cineworld release. However, those with an Unlimited membership were given a rare opportunity to experience this poignant tale on Tuesday, with Cineworld's huge, state-of-the-art screens providing the perfect platform for the film's glorious panoramic vistas.

Bit of a slow burn but a beautifully told tale of friendship through the years. The cinematography was breathtaking. Thought that was going to be a bit of a slog but pleased to say it kept me hooked from the start

An absolutely beautiful film about male friendship. I particularly appreciated the decision to shoot it in the 1.37 aspect ratio, which gave the vistas an epic vertical scale.

For this movie-goer, though, the positives didn't quite outweigh the negatives, and their overall feeling was one of disappointment.
I think the first 45 minutes were astonishing with a beautiful friendship but sadly the substance ran out of steam, meaning the film unfortunately dragged considerably. I found the plot to be slightly mundane and have no punch to it. Amazing soundtrack though and good ending.

Beautifully shot, and well acted, but after the first hour, it was struggling to hold my attention, sadly. The gut punch of an ending partly made up for it, but the story needed a bit more pace injecting into it for my taste.
