As if the passing of time wasn’t scary enough, 2026 is promising plenty more jump scares, gruelling demises, and vengeful poltergeists with its slate of upcoming horror movies.
From the next instalment in the 28 Days Later franchise to a new take on monster films with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, there is plenty to be excited about if you’re a horror fan in the new year.

SOULM8TE (2nd January)
While the M3GAN franchise has become more scifi adjacent than horror, the upcoming spin-off movie SOULM8TE still deserves its place on this list, even if just for legacies sake. Starring Lily Sullivan, Claudia Doumit, and David Rysdahl, SOULM8TE sees a widow attempt to fill the void his deceased wife left by purchasing an AI robot. Endeavouring to turn the robot sentient, he inadvertently sends the love bot to the other end of the spectrum – deadly.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (16th January)
No waiting around this time around – the 28 Days Later franchise continues on from its success with 28 Years Later last summer, with Nia DaCosta directing the next horror epic with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland co-producing alongside Peter Rice, Bernie Bellew, and Andrew Macdonald. A direct sequel to 28 Years Later, Spike is inducted into Sir Jimmy Crystal’s inner circle, while Dr Ian Kelson makes a discovery that could change the trajectory of the world.
Primate (30th January)
There’s a reason wild animals shouldn’t be kept as pets, and English filmmaker Johannes Roberts is here to tell you why. When a family goes on a holiday to a tropical island, they decide to adopt a chimpanzee. Bitten by a rabid animal, the chimpanzee’s temperament soon changes with horrifying consequences.
Send Help (6th February)
Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien star in a survivor horror-thriller that sees competing colleagues stranded following a plane crash. The only known survivors, they must put aside past grievances in order to make it out alive.
Scream 7 (27th February)
Don’t worry, there’s some slasher action in the 2026 upcoming horror movies slate – and does it honestly get better than the Scream franchise? The seventh installment in the franchise arrives with Scream 7 early in the year, seeing the return of a Ghostface killer who preys on Sidney Prescott's daughter. Returning to the franchise are Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, with new faces including Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale.
The Bride! (6th March)
Jessie Buckley is booked and busy in 2026. Alongside Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, she’ll star in Maggie Gyllenhaal's monster film, The Bride!, which puts the limelight on Frankenstein’s Monster’s love interest. Anxious that Frankenstein’s creature might be lonely, he asks Dr. Euphronius to create a companion for him “sparking romance, police interest and radical social change.”
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (10th April)
The sequel to the 2019 horror, this film has it all, with plenty of comedy and action to appeal to even the horror-cynics. While Grace MacCaullay (Samara Weaving) might’ve won “the game” (losing her husband and in-laws in the process), she’s simply entered into a bigger game in which the Earth’s most influential, rich families must hunt her in order to save their fortunes. In order to protect her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton), Grace must again play the game.
Scary Movie 6 (12th June)
It’s been over ten years since the last Scary Movie film came out, but worry not – the sixth is on the way, deary, and its release sees a reboot of the whole parody franchise. With the Wayans brothers back at the helm – the writers and producers behind the first two films – this is sure to be a trip down memory lane with the hilarious horror back at its peak. And they’re not the only familiar faces returning. Anna Faris and Regina Hall, both who starred in the first four films, are reprising their roles, with the Wayans brothers revealing some of the latest, biggest horror movies of the last few years could be parodied in Scary Movie 6, including Sinners, Longlegs, and Jordan Peele movies Get Out and Nope.
Thread: An Insidious Tale (21st August)
Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore are set to star in a spin-off in the Insidious franchise, Thread: An Insidious Tale, in which a couple attempt to cast a spell in order to travel back in time and prevent the death of their daughter. As with any spin-off, this is not considered a continuation of the series, instead taking the premise of demonic entities disrupting the every day.
On the same day in August, Insidious 6 is also currently due to be released, starring Brandon Perea, Lin Shaye, Amelia Eve, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Less appears to be known about the plot of this film, and the conflicting release dates seem a little up in the air, but we’ll update when we know more.
Clayface (11th September)
Alongside James Gunn’s follow-up to Superman with Supergirl in June, the DC Universe sees further expansion with Clayface – although the tone here is entirely different. Categorised as a body horror, Clayface is the origin story of the titular villain. Once an up-and-coming actor, his face is left grossly disconfigured when he’s attacked by a thug and attempts to transform his body into clay with the help of a scientist. Starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen AKA Clayface, Eddie Marsan, Max Minghella, and Naomi Ackie also star in Clayface.
