Cast your mind back to this time in 2024 and you may remember theatre kids across the globe counting down to the long-awaited and highly anticipated release of Wicked. Their infectious excitement and fandom helped it become the most successful Broadway film adaptation of all time and now, a year later, the release of part two – Wicked: For Good – is nearly upon us. And this time, it's not just those theatre kids striking the days off the calendar – it's the entire world that's obsessulated!
It's time to pick a side... or is it?
Emmy, Tony and Grammy-Award winner Cynthia Erivo, and Academy-Award nominee Ariana Grande reprise their roles as Elphaba and Glinda. The former lives alone in the shadows, exciled to the Ozian forest while continuing her rebellion against the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), and doing her utmost to save Oz's persecuted animals.
Glinda, on the other hand, is enjoying a new-found celebrity status as Glinda The Good, an unwaveringly positive role model for all of Oz, cultivated and endorsed by the Wizard and his right-hand sorceress, Madam Morrible (Academy-Award winner Michelle Yeoh). Her lofty position is raised even further by her high-profile engagement to Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), who is now Captain of the Ozian Guard and leading the hunt for his former friend and partner in rebellion, Elphaba.
All may look well on the outside, but inside Glinda is struggling to fill the void left by her friend's absence. She attempts to bring Elphaba back into the Wizard's good graces, an exercise that only succeeds in driving an even greater wedge between our two heoines. As public fury rises against the now-branded "wicked witch" and with Boq (Ethan Slater) and Fiyero forever altered, the arrival of a girl from Kansas stirs up even more of a furore. And, at the centre of it all, is Elphaba and Glinda's unique friendship, which could be Oz's only hope for change.
Bring Wicked: For Good to life with IMAX
For diehard Wicked fans, a standard viewing experience just isn't going to defy gravity – full immersion is the only option. And at Cineworld, there's a veritable buffet of options. But which will you go for?
We all know director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights) is a master when it comes to creating visual spectacles and 2024's Wicked has set expectations sky-high for its 2025 sequel. So what better way to watch Wicked: For Good than with IMAX's enhanced screens and perfectly tuned sound and speaker systems to really feel Cynthia's crystal-clear vocals slice through you to your very core? Wickedheads know there are some powerhouse showtunes coming their way too, so it's best to be prepared, right?
But what about our other special formats?
No IMAX near you? No problem! Make sure your Wicked: For Good viewing experience is as immersive as possible with our state-of-the-art technology. 4DX, for instance, puts you slap-bang in the middle of the action, with additional effects like water, wind, scent and strobe lighting, and even vibrations and shaking, perfectly timed to echo the on-screen energy and to make you feel even closer to the experience.
Or try ScreenX, where up to twelve high-tech projectors cast the action all around you onto the side walls of the screening room, meaning that every chase scene, fight, or – in the case of Oz's winged monkeys – flight, will absolutely engulf you.
And lastly, if you'd rather go big than go home (and we know you would!), our Superscreen is the option for you. Floor-to-floor, wall-to-wall screens use superb projection and multidimensional sounds to give you the clearest possible visuals and audio experience to make you feel like you're right by your favourite character's side, whether that's with Elphaba on her broom or with Glinda in her bubble.
Twice the fun with a double screening
If you want to experience the whole glorious story from beginning to end, we're hosting a special double feature screening on 20th November at 5:30pm, starting with Wicked and then moving into Wicked: For Good for the double bill of dreams. You won't want to miss it. We're also showing a special preview screening at 11am on the same day in association with MediCinema.
There's even merch!
Whichever way you choose to watch Wicked: For Good, make sure you're accessorised to the hilt with special branded popcorn bucket and cups – all exclusive to Cineworld. There are two styles of drinking cups to choose from: first up, the Hat Lid Cup that comes in two designs and sports super-sharp headwear, just like Elphaba; or there's the Dual Chamber Cup, split into two so you can slurp two flavours of drink at once! There's also the glittering LED Popcorn Bucket, the most stylish way to enjoy a mid-movie snack! All available while stocks last.
Wicked: For Good is released on 21st November. So what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets and your merch and head to your nearest Cineworld to be changed "For Good".
