We've got exciting news. Cineworld Barnsley has opened to film fans following a glitzy and exciting celebratory gala.
On September 22, the local community turned out in style to Cineworld Barnsley. We were thrilled to host a private screening of Tom Cruise's magnificent Top Gun sequel Top Gun: Maverick and the newly released thriller Don’t Worry Darling, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
The new Barnsley cinema, located in The Glass Works, features 13 state-of-the-art screens including an IMAX with Laser auditorium, a multi-sensory 4DX extreme cinema experience and ScreenX, which is a 270-degree wrap-around screen that surrounds you in your seat.

How did Cineworld Barnsley celebrate its gala opening?
We invited some very special guests down to mark this special occasion.
In attendance at the gala were three of the four local artists who helped honour the cultural legacy of Barnsley in a campaign ahead of the opening:
- David ‘Dai’ Bradley - Highly regarded actor known for playing Billy Casper in the acclaimed cult film Kes, directed by Ken Loach and shot in Barnsley in 1969
- Graham Ibbeson - Professional artist known for realistic and figurative sculptures such as Stan and Ollie as well as the Barry Hines Kes tribute statue in the town centre
- Lee Hinchcliffe - Social media personality, YouTube star and CBBC television presenter
