Spielberg says studios need to stop relying on intellectual property

Steven Spielberg is a movie marvel for a reason, forever showing the rest of the industry how it’s done. Disclosure Day is a completely original story by Spielberg, with the screenplay penned by David Koepp – no reboot or existing IP in sight.
Speaking at CinemaCon in mid April, he called for studios to stop relying on pre-existing IPs. “If all we make is known branded IP we're going to run out of gas and we're going to run out of gas very quickly.”

None of the third act of Disclosure Day features in the trailer

Not only is Disclosure Day a rarity in its originality – Spielberg also made a very refreshing marketing choice when it came to its trailers.

You’ve likely heard the complaint over and over again when it comes to trailers: the trailer gives away too much of the story, viewers feel like it gives away the whole plot, etcetera etcetera.

To avoid audiences being able to piece together clues and decipher key plot points, Spielberg confirmed that none of the third act of Disclosure Day features in the trailers.

Disclosure Day is “way closer to truth than to fiction."

While being interviewed by Disclosure Day star Colman Domingo at CinemaCon, Spielberg talked about his fascination with the night sky growing up, and how the existence of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program sparked his curiosity of other life.

Speaking on Disclosure Day, he said he believes the film is “way closer to the truth than fiction,” adding, “I truly believe that this movie is going to answer questions and cause you to aska  lot of questions.”
