No matter where you stand on reading the book first (or not), some great movies have started out as books, and filmmakers show no sign of stopping in adapting books for the big screen. From swoon-worthy romances (Colleen Hoover is doing well to keep the slate stacked) to contemporary and classic literary titles, and even a little bit of sci-fi with the third Dune coming at the end of the year, there are so many book to screen adaptations on the way in 2026. Read on for all the confirmed upcoming book to screen adaptations you’ll be able to watch at Cineworld soon.

The Housemaid (now showing)

Freida McFadden is no stranger to a thriller, and the first novel in her Housemaid series is being turned into a movie with Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone. Millie has a colourful past that she wishes to hide from, taking up a position as a live-in housemaid with the Winchester family. While seemingly perfect, the Winchester family is not all as it seems, with dark secrets soon to be revealed.

Crime 101 (now showing)

Chris Hemworth's new crime thriller features lightening fast getaways and nail-biting heists, and is based upon Don Winslow's 2020 novella. Hemsworth plays a notorious jewelery thief that has, so far, managed to evade his comeuppance. With LAPD Detective Lou Lubesnick (Mark Ruffalo) is on the case, could his time finally be up, or will a new alliance, insurance broker Sharon (Halle Berry) be the component needed for his ongoing success.

Wuthering Heights (now showing)

Already causing something of a storm with Brönte evangelists, Emerald Fennell is dashing the classic with some of her movie magic. Following on from the success of Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, Wuthering Heights stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff in what looks to be a rather raunchy take on the Gothic novel.

The Bride (now showing)

While not a direct book to screen adaptation, there would be no The Bride! without the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, and there'd be no Bride of Frankenstein wthout Mary Shelley's famous literary classic Frankenstein, so we reckon Maggie Gyllenhaal's upcoming gothic crime movie counts among the rest of these book to screen adaptations. Wanted to create a companion for Frankenstein's monster, Dr Euphronious brings back to life a murdered woman, that leads to an unexpected series of events.

Reminders of Him (13th March)

Colleen Hoover is cashing in on Hollywood lately. First there was It Ends With Us in 2024. Last year we got Regretting You. In 2026, we get two Colleen Hoover movie adaptations. First is Reminders of Him. This follows as Kenna wishes to reunite with her daughter after an accident sees the father of her child dead and her with a seven year prison sentence.

Project Hail Mary (20th March)

Ryan Gosling in scifi? Yes, please. Project Hail Mary is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Andy Weir. Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a Science teacher who wakes up on a spacecraft with no memory of why he's there or of the mission he must complete in order to save mankind. And he's seemingly completely alone up there.

The Magic Faraway Tree (27th March)

What could be a more enchanting tail for a family movie night than from the mind of Enid Blyton? This new adaptation sees a family reconnect when they're forced to move away from city life and into the British countryside. It's here that they discover a magical tree that transports them to fantastical lands. The cast for this is amazing, including Claire Foy, Andrew Garfield, Nicola Coughlan, Jennifer Saunders, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jessica Gunning.

Upcoming book to screen adaptations

The Odyssey (17th July)

Christopher Nolan is back, and of course he's taking on an epic story. None other than the ancient Greek Homer's Odyssey. The story charts as Odysseus (played by Matt Damon) journeys back to his homeland after the events of the Trojan War, encountering the likes of Cyclops, sirens, and Circe. The film is stacked with Hollywood talent alongside Damon, including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, and Zendaya.

Verity (2nd October)

The second Colleen Hoover adaptation of 2026, Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a writer who takes on the challenge of bestselling author Verity Crawford's unfinished manuscript under the direction of her husband, Jeremy Crawford. Anne Hathaway plays the prediposed Verity, while Josh Harnett is Jeremy Crawford.

Sunrise on the Reaping (20th November)

We're returning to Panem. Suzanne Collin's latest prequel to The Hunger Games finally gives book stans what they've always wanted – Haymitch's backstory. Charting the events of the Second Quarter Quell, the cast for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is unreal, and we just know Lionsgate is going to knock it out of the park with this one – the movie was already in development before the book had even been published, for goodness sake!

Dune 3 (18th December)

Drawing to a close the Denis Villeneuve adaptations, the third movie in the Dune trilogy arrives at the end of 2026 and will be based on the second book in Frank Herbert’s series called Dune Messiah. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Jason Mamoa will reprise their roles, while Robert Pattinson will also reportedly join the cast.
