
It’s a Bank Holiday weekend from May 2nd-5th, which means that many of us will get an extra day off to do something fun! And what better way to spend the time than by watching a brilliant movie on the big screen. Cineworld is showing lots of great movies over the bank holiday weekend, from action blockbusters to spy thrillers, supernatural horrors to classic comedies. To give you a better idea of what’s on, we’ve compiled a list of the top movies showing at a Cineworld cinema near you…
A Minecraft Movie
Undoubtedly the biggest blockbuster of the spring, A Minecraft Movie sees the global global gaming phenomenon being brought to the big screen. And it looks incredible! Jack Black is hilarious as Steve, a master crafter who’s called upon to help a group of misfits return home when they’re unexpectedly transported into the Overworld. With some awesome action sequences, not to mention a barrel-load of belly laughs, Jared Hess’s movie is a treat for the whole family.

The Accountant 2
Ben Affleck reprises his role as Christian Wolff, the maths genius with lethal combat skills. In The Accountant 2, he and his equally deadly brother (Jon Bernthal) are tasked with solving the murder of a Treasury Agency chief. But as they begin to unravel the mystery, they find themselves being targeted by some of the most ruthless killers around. Action and comedy abound in Gavin O’Connor’s long-awaited sequel.
Thunderbolts
The latest Marvel blockbuster to blast onto the big screen, Thunderbolts sees a ragtag team of anti-heroes being sent on a deadly mission that turns out to be a trap – and the only way to survive is by confronting some of the dark secrets from their past. Featuring some of the MCU’s most popular characters, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), The Void (Lewis Pullman) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Jake Schreier’s action adventure promises thrills galore.
Until Dawn
Another movie to be derived from a popular videogame, David F. Sandberg’s Until Dawn revolves around a group of young people who investigate their friend's mysterious disappearance, only to find themselves getting stuck in an endless nightmare where they get murdered again and again. The only way they can escape is to survive until dawn – but that’s easier said than done. If you love jump scares, then this entertaining horror is the one for you.
Sinners
One of the most talked-about movies of the year so far, Sinners reunites director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) with actor Michael B. Jordan for a supernatural horror that’s been almost universally acclaimed by critics. Set in the Deep South during the 1930s, it centres around two brothers (both played by Jordan) who return to their hometown to escape their troubles, only to discover a much greater evil waiting for them when they get there. Described as “a deliciously vicious vampire hit”, Sinners is an absolute must-see for fans of the genre.
The Penguin Lessons
Steve Coogan teams up with a penguin in The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo’s loveable comedy drama. Based on the memoirs of Tom Michell, The Penguin Lessons follows a boarding schoolteacher working in Argentina (Coogan) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a penguin after rescuing it from an oil slick. The Alan Partridge star is on fine form, and the penguin does rather well too!

The Amateur
Revenge movies don’t come much more gripping than James Hawes’ The Amateur, which sees Bohemian Rhapsody star Remi Malek playing a CIA cryptographer who vows to settle the score when his wife is murdered in a terrorist attack. Based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel of the same name, this slick, pacy thriller is as expertly handled as anything we’ve seen recently.
Disney’s Snow White
This magical live-action reboot of the Disney classic won’t be showing for much longer, so if you do want to see Marc Webb’s musical blockbuster, now’s the time to do it. With Rachel Zegler starring as the titular princess, Gal Gadot playing her nemesis the Evil Queen, and a whole bunch of catchy new songs complementing the old favourites, Disney's Snow White has a lot going for it.

Warfare
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it feels like to fight in a combat situation, then this is about as close as you’ll get without doing it for real. Directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, and based on the former’s experiences as a Navy SEAL during the Iraq War, Warfare follows a platoon of soldiers as they embark on a daring mission through enemy territory. Visceral and at times harrowing, Warfare is a cinematic experience unlike any other.
Bonnie & Clyde the Musical
Two of history's most notorious criminals are thrown into the spotlight in the award-winning stage show Bonnie & Clyde the Musical. As part of Cineworld's Event Cinema programme, we're screening a live recording of the show captured at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Featuring a host of toe-tapping numbers, and brilliant performances from the two main leads, this is one you won't want to miss out on.
