Back in 2017, Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson made a raucous, bickering double-act in bullet-ridden action-comedy The Hitman's Bodyguard. Reynolds played the bumbling Michael Bryce who was tasked with protecting notorious assassin Darius Kincaid (Jackson) from a contingent of killers. Hovering on the sidelines was Salma Hayek, playing the profane, incarcerated Sonia, spouse of Jackson's character – but now the scales are being evened out a tad.
Sequel The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard allows Sonia to o leave prison and let rip in a hail of gunfire. For security purposes, she's roped in Bryce, who is now seeking a sabbatical from the protection racket after the nightmare he experienced trying to shield Darius.
Director Patrick Hughes returns as does cast member Richard E. Grant. New faces include Antonio Bandera, Frank Grillo, Tom Hopper and Morgan Freeman while the set-pieces, in line with the first movie, look to contrast Jackson's quick-fire aggression with Reynolds' relatively more meek delivery. The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is scheduled for theatrical release on 23rd June 2021.
