
Spooky season is here, and there’s a frightful amount of new movies you need to see this month – and they’re not all scary. If you’re a fan of biopics, we’ve got a double bill with The Smashing Machine following UFC champion Mark Kerr, while Jeremy Allen White stars in Scott Cooper’s Springsteen biographical musical. There’s also comedies, psychological thrillers, and plenty of drama in store this month.

The Smashing Machine (3rd October)
People are speculating whether this could be the movie that gets Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson an Oscar as he plays Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. Following the rise and fall of MMA fighter turned UFC champion Mark Kerr, Emily Blunt stars as Dawn Staples, Kerr’s then-wife. Other members of the cast include Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten, and Oleksandr Usyk, all who are real life martial artists and boxers.

Roofman (3rd October)
Based on a true story, Channing Tatum plays ex-solider and prisoner escapee Jeffrey Manchester who earns his nickname “Roofman” by cutting holes into the roofs of McDonald's and robbing them. When he escapes from prison, he hides out in a Toys “R” Us, but struggles to lead his double life when he falls for single mother Leigh (Kirsten Dunst).
Him (3rd October)
An All-American sports horror, Him follows rising star quarterback Cam (Tyriq Withers) who suffers a career-altering injurying after being attacked by a fan. Swooping in to save the day, his childhood hero Isaiah White takes him under his ring and agrees to train him in his isolated compound. Directed by Justin Tipping with Jordan Peele co-producing, things get suitably weird as Isaiah becomes more and more deranged.
I Swear (10th October)
Another true story, I Swear brings to the screen the astonishing life of John Davidson who was diagnosed with tourettes at a time where little was known or understood about it. He went on to become a key campaigner for Tourette syndrome, with Robert Aramayo portraying Davidson in this heartening depiction of his life.
Tron: Ares (10th October)
The much anticipated third instalment in the Tron franchise, Tron: Ares marks a reboot in the series. Jared Leto stars as a sentient AI that crosses over from the digital world to take on a dangerous mission. Needless to say, humankind is left terrified. Good Boy (10th October)
If you've ever owned a pet and seen them seemingly looking at nothing, Good Boy brings all those 'do they see dead things?' questions to light. Good Boy is a horror story from the perspective of a pretty adorale golden retriever when he and his owner Todd move out into the sticks. Dark, supernatural beings begin to close in and this loyal pooch must protect his owners.
Black Phone 2 (17th October)
You thought the Grabber was gone? You thought wrong. The Grabber (AKA Ethan Hawke) has grown ever more powerful in death, and there seems like no other option than for him to finish what he started with Finn, the only living survivor of the serial killer.
Good Fortune (17th October)
A stacked cast, Good Fortune tells the story of a "budget guardian angel", Gabriel (portrayed by Keanu Reeves) stumbles across Arj (Aziz Ansari), a guy down on his luck, working for a rich man named Jeff (Seth Rogen). Turning into a good ol' fashioned body swan movie, Gabriel attempts to show Arj that his life wouldn't be miraculously better if he swapped lives with Jeff. However, when Arj's problems are solved by Jeff's money, Gabriel loses his wings and comes crashing down to Earth to live with in the mess he caused.
Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie (17th October)
One for the little’ns, Gabby’s Dollhouse is heading to the big screen as Gabby finds her most prized possession in the hands of a kookie cat lady called Vera, played by none other than Kirsten Wiig. Gabby must therefore set out on an adventure to retrieve her Gabby Cats and bring the gang back together.

After the Hunt (22nd October)
Bringing together some excellent talent, After the Hunt sees college professor Alma Olsson (Julia Roberts) caught in the middle of her dashing colleague Henrik Gibson (Andrew Garfield) and her student prodigy Maggie Price (Ayo Edebiri) when Maggie accuses Henrik of inappropriate behaviour. From the director of Call Me By Your Name and Challengers, expect this psychological thriller to be searingly good.
Regretting You (24th October)
Another Colleen Hoover adaptation is on the way with Regretting You. A family is broken apart in the aftermath of their grief when an accident reveals deep betrayal. Starring Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, Willa Fitzgerald, and Scott Eastwood, expect romance, turmoil, and maybe some closure.
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (24th October)
Both a book to screen adaptation and a biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere brings to the silver screen Warren Zane’s biography of the legendary Bruce Springsteen, chronicling the making of his sixth studio album Nebraska, which ultimately saw him soar into global stardom. Jeremy Allen White plays Springsteen in this movie, which will feature musical numbers, with Jeremy Strong starring as his manager Jon Landau and Stephen Graham as Springsteen’s father.

Bugonia (31st October)
Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos are back working together in his absurd scifi meets black comedy, following what happens when two conspiracy theorists abduct the CEO of a big company, convinced she is infact an alien looking to destroy Earth from the inside. Emma Stone portrays Michelle Fuller, the aforementioned CEO of a pharmaceutical company, while her abducts are played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis. Clueless' Alicia Silverstone and Stavros Halkias also star.
Shelby Oaks (31st October)
In need of more horror this spooky season? Obviously! Shelby Oaks tells the story of Mia Brenna, who is searching for her missing sister, Riley, who has been missing for years. Things take a turn for the downright creepy when Mia realises the imaginary demon that haunted their childhood might just be real – and likely has something to do with her sister's disappearance.
