September movie releases in Cineworld

Summer may be coming to an end, but there's no need to get downhearted as there are some cracking movies showing at Cineworld cinemas in September. Here's what you can expect to see.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (released September 6th)

Michael Keaton returns to his signature role as cinema's greatest (or perhaps only) 'bio-exorcist'.

The iconic Beetlejuice first sprang onto the scene in Tim Burton's anarchic 1988 horror comedy of the same name. Now, Burton and Keaton are reuniting to bring us the latest maniacal chapter in the Beetlejuice universe, one that groups together OG cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara with franchise newcomers Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.

Speak No Evil (released September 12th)

The versatile James McAvoy taps into his darker side for this mordant and blackly comic thriller, a remake of the acclaimed 2022 Danish film, which gives new meaning to the oft-quoted phrase 'hell is other people'.

McAvoy plays the seemingly charming head of an apparently ordinary British family who invites an American couple and their child to stay with him at his luxurious summer house. However, it's the jumping-off point for a gruelling psychological confrontation that steadily escalates from awkwardness to full-blown horror.

The Critic (released September 13th)

The venerable Sir Ian McKellen chews the scenery in this lurid mixture of overheated melodrama and twisty secrets. McKellen portrays gay theatre critic Jimmy Erskine who blackmails up-and-coming actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton) to help him take down Erskine's great nemesis: newspaper editor David Brooke (Mark Strong).

As if that cast wasn't strong enough, there's support from Lesley Manville, Romola Garai, Ben Barnes and Alfred Enoch.

Megalopolis (released September 27th)

The legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola helped change the face of contemporary cinema with his masterful Godfather trilogy (1972-1990), The Conversation (1974) and Apocalypse Now (1979). Now in his eighties, Coppola is as ambitious as ever, ready to present his new movie Megalopolis.

The movie is a fusion of Blade Runner-esque steampunk visuals and Roman history, the story of the rise and possible fall of a gleaming futuristic city with explicit parallels to key events in human civilisation. Adam Driver leads the all-star cast that also includes Aubrey Plaza, Jon Voight, Giancarlo Esposito and Shia LaBeouf.

The Outrun (released September 27th)

Saoirse Ronan is being tipped for an Oscar nomination for her empathetic and deeply felt performance in this atmospheric drama. Amy Liptrot adapts her memoir in collaboration with director Nora Fingscheidt, bringing us the Orkney Islands-set story of a young woman fresh from rehab, and her desire to start over.
