Last week we gave you The Ritual, and this week’s Secret Screaming attendees got Australian horror Dangerous Animals.
Directed by Sean Byrne, Dangerous Animals stars Hassie Harrison, Josh Heuston, and Jai Courtney and marries together serial killers with sharks for a truly chilling watch that makes you question, are you actually safer in the water?
Coming out on June 6, the seventh Secret Screaming saw horror fans get a preview screening of the movie, and oh boy were there thoughts. The most horrifying aspect of the movie? Baby Shark is back!

Jai Courtney plays Tucker, a serial killer who abducts surfer Zephyr (Harrison) and intends to feed her to the sharks. And his performance really stood out to a lot of viewers.
Star of the movie has to be Jai Courtney with his character giving plenty of shivers and a certain flair to his performance.

I REALLY am not that fussed but shark films….but I LOVED that! Such a simple idea but done so brilliantly! Jai Courtney was SO GOOD! 🦈 #Doodoodoodoodoodoo

And while you might think once you've seen Jaws, you've seen all the shark related horror, Dangerous Animals kept our Secret Screaming attendees questioning.
#DangerousAnimals was a nerve-racking watch. Just when you think it can't get any more tense - it does! 🦈

That was tremendous fun. Gripping and contains at least one moment you'll never forget! Thanks @cineworld

If Peter's glowing review isn't enough, we reckon we all need to know what that exciting moment he's alluding to was.
A lot of people pure and simply loved it. It even got Bruce from Finding Nemo's seal of approval (sort of).

That was AMAZING, had me hooked

I bet Hassie Harrison's character wished she had a hook to sort out some of those sea creatures á la Captain Hook...
Pure and simple, Dangerous Animals nailed it at bringing the tension and playing on some of our real life worst fears.
It was excellent! What happens to those victims is probably my worst nightmare. Yikes.

A serial killer and sharks... what wasn't to like...? 😂

Stresssful AF.
As one X user pointed out, we're fine with shark attack here and there. We draw the line at dog deaths in films.
Brilliant! Plenty of twists and turns not knowing what way it was going to go at times! If the dog was killed it would’ve been a default 0/10!
— AaronMannion (@AaronMannion89) June 2, 2025
It's also important to note no dogs were harmed in the making of this movie – and we're all more than a bit relieved.
One thing we weren't prepared for was Baby Shark fever to have a renaissance.
Loved loved loved. Baby shark do do do de do

In fact, it's infected the folk over on Letterboxd, too.
You've heard the phrase "kill 'em with kindness", how about "kill 'em with Baby Shark on repeat"?
And you know a horror film has truly left its mark if it haunts you long after – this time in the form of the ghost of Baby Shark.
News just in, though. Flights to Australia have skyrocketed. Said no one ever after watching Dangerous Animals.
Dangerous Animals is coming to Cineworld from June 6, and it might just be about to have its culutural moment. Book your tickets to watch it when it arrives at Cineworld.
