Last night Cineworlders started spooky season on the right paw by attending the latest Secret Screaming event – and they were awarded with treats (over tricks) and scritches a plenty with a screening of Ben Leonberg’s directorial debut Good Boy.
A horror movie from the point of view of a very, very Good Boy, Indy the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever travels with his chronically ill owner Todd for a new life in the country – in an isolated house in the woods, once owned by his deceased grandfather, because of course. It’s there that a ghostly presence makes itself known to Indy who attempts to protect his owner from the mud-ridden, skeletal figure.
Leaving plenty of tails wagging, here’s what attendees of the Cineworld Secret Screaming thought of Good Boy.
One thing is for sure, Indy has got award-winning pooch all over him. In fact, Alex reckons dogs might get their very own Oscar category before stuntmen…
While Shaneela is telling Timothé Chalamet he better watch out if he’s hoping to scoop up the Academy Award for Best Actor next year.
And users on X agree.
And the Oscar for most sniffing in any movie ever goes to …..

In fact, it’s fair to say dogs probably deserve awards more than humans do considering how much harder we find it to watch them in a less than ideal situation.
Kelly found it particularly distressing.
As a dog lover this was a tough watch. Seeing a dog in distress with no one to help him was too much for me. The dog deserves an award.

While Eddie had the realisation he’s a fan of horror and fully locked in seeing people in disturbing circumstances. But he’s checking out when dogs are at risk. Totally valid, to be honest.
It was probably the best movie that I *didn’t* enjoy. Realised I enjoy horror because I don’t mind seeing humans in distress… when it’s a dog in distress, no bueno, I’m in distress

…While it’s an absolute no from Justin, and we can’t blame him – we’re starting a ‘Destroyed by Marley & Me’ support group as we speak.
I'm sorry but since Marley and Me I can't watch a film with a dog in it

For many, though, that extra emotional attachment to Indy just made it all the more scary and visceral.
I was so scared for the dog all the way through, it was so good though!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The rest of the cast didn’t actually get a look in where our reviewers were concerned. Sorry, Shane Jesen, Arielle Friedman, and Stuart Rudin. You did great, but it’s all about Indy!
i really enjoyed it! i hope they gave indy all the treats <3

A step away from the trialled and true horror tropes, Good Boy was a hit with Cineworlders.
Really good film! Completely different to most horrors. A few jump scares too. Loved it!

Really clever to make it all from the doggy’s point of view. Liked it!

A haunted house story with a difference, Indy was certainly the star in the film that takes hold of you on his spooky journey that has a great twist at the end!
