In case you missed it, Saw is back in the hands of James Wan and this is what horror fans think of latest development

In case you missed it, the rights to Saw have just exchanged bloody hands, as reported by Deadline, with Blumhouse acquiring Saw from Twisted Pictures – and this could mean the original creator of the horror franchise, James Wan, might be back to play another game for the postponed Saw XI project – and beyond.

While Lionsgate still owns 50% of the franchise and will continue to be involved in future Saw titles, Twisted Pictures sold the IP to Blumhouse, who Wan has a close connection with since his own production company, Atomic Monster, merged with Blumhouse in 2024.

Atomic Monster is responsible for some of the most exciting horror movies in recent times including The Monkey, Annabelle, and The Nun/The Nun II. Atomic Monster also produced M3GAN and the upcoming sequel, M3GAN 2.0. So this feels like an exciting prospect, more so when you consider Wan and his co-creator Leigh Whannell haven't been involved since the first three Saw movies came out.

While Atomic Monster and Blumhouse do still function as separate production companies, this does put James Wan back in very close proximity to the franchise that he and Whannell brought to all our waking nightmares over 20 years ago when the first Saw movie came out in 2004.

Well, we think this is very exciting indeed, but wanted to put it to our followers over on X to see what you fellow horror fans make of this interesting turn of events. Drum roll, please...

First up, Pete concurs our sentiment. This is definitely going to be an interesting development in the Saw franchise!

New Saw era pending!!

One thing is for sure, whether Wan joins the project or not...

Of course, we're here for any and all Saw films, but it's fair to say sometimes the OG is better for fans.

We can only assume this means Imran is hopeful for the next Saw instalment giving more of the energy of the first three films.

James is also pretty stocked about the news Wan could be back!

And we're here for The Foam Witch on X, who will take Saw no matter how it's packaged. A true fan over here!

Turns out Cineworld is not just here to deliver exciting releases to the big screen, it's also some X users' source of news. Happy to be of service, one and all!

It's worth noting that, just because Wan has a close relationship with Blumhouse doesn't automatically mean he'll definitely be in for future Saw projects. Much like this X user points out, though, we're crossing our fingers for official confirmation soon – and just any news on Saw XI, to be honest.

Following the terrifying tale of the notorious serial killer known as 'Jigsaw' AKA John Kramer, each movie sees as Kramer places his victims in a violent game in which they must inflict pain on themselves in order to try and survive.

While a direct sequel to Saw X was in the works, the release date has been changed twice, with work on Saw XI stalled over reported disagreements. Hopefully with the news that Blumhouse has snapped up the rights we could see more movement on forthcoming instalments to the Saw franchise. And we doubly hope James Wan will be back with more creative control to bring some of the success of its earliest movies.
