Have you ever wondered what Friday the 13th would look like if it was told from Jason Vorhees' point of view? Well, the surreal new slasher movie In a Violent Nature provides the answer.
Described as an 'ambient horror', the movie tracks a ruthless, undead, masked serial killer named Johnny through the woods as he preys on helpless victims in outrageously gory fashion. (The already-infamous 'yoga kill' has to be seen to be believed.)
Directed by Chris Nash, here making his feature film debut, the movie is akin to a cross between Terrence Malick and Wes Craven. The movie previewed as our inaugural Secret Screaming and we've rounded up some of the reactions from viewers.

It was definitely a brutal one but a great fun horror movie at that! The ending on the other hand was rather drawn out for the runtime. However the story was well written, the acting was well done, the kills were very creative and gory. Overall Score: 8.5/10! Grade: A-! 😁😁😁😱

Loved that the film was framed with a 4:3 ratio which gave it a unnerving feel of being closer. The sound mix really helped with the atmosphere. Not jumpy, but damn the gory horror just intensified as it went on. Definitely been put off doing Yoga now 😂😂

Entertaining enough, some great kills but the long shots dragged the pacing to a screaming halt, obvious inspiration from what has come before and the biggest off the top of my head being F13TH The Game.

My expectations were firmly met which is all I could ask for.
7/10
Thought it was interesting and I appreciated a film trying to do something totally different. There was some stuff in it that I really liked, but felt that it ran out of steam a bit by the end. Glad I got to see it though! Like horror ASMR. 😅

Thanks for screening #InAViolentNature it was refreshing to see an original take on the slasher genre - I appreciate it's a tough sell to a more mainstream audience, and will certainly divide opinion. Looking forward to MaXXXine and Longlegs next!

I thought it was an interesting concept, but it didn't quite work. Nice work on the kills, but as it was from Johnny's perspective (mostly) we had little time with the characters. I barely knew the final girl, which made the last 15 minutes quite tedious.

I’m not a big horror fan but I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone lately. I really enjoyed it, no daft scare jumps or musical scares like in lots of films. Very very brutal though, I won’t be doing yoga anytime soon
