What is the plot of James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg?
Nuremberg follows the trial of 52 senior Nazis who were heavily involved in Nazi Germany’s invasion of many European countries and the atrocities committed during World War 2. Nuremberg hones particularly on the relationship formed between American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley – hired in order to determine whether the Nazi military members are fit to stand trial – and Adolf Hitler’s right-hand man, Herman Göring.
Kelley is keen to better understand the internal mechanics of a man capable of such heinous crimes, but he may well not be prepared for the sobering truths a seemingly ordinary man is capable of.

Nuremberg release date
Nuremberg will be released on the 14th November at Cineworld, with Unlimited members able to watch a preview special screening a few days early on 11th November.
Is Nuremberg based on a book?
Nuremberg is based on a book called The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai’s, which charts the relationship between Kelley and Göring as the former attempts to better understand the psychological differences that create the 52 senior Nazis being put on trial.
El-Hai’s book came out in 2013, and delves into how Kelley began to “appreciate and [even] understand” the whims of the Nazis, with the book based around actual medical records recorded by Kelley.
What is the history behind the Nuremberg trials?
Nuremberg is based on the very real trials that took place between the 20th November, 1945 and the 1st October, 1946, in which surviving senior Nazis were put on trial for their crimes over the course of World War 2, including Nazi’s Germany invasion into European countries and the Holocaust. This included political and military figures, though some of the most prominent – Adolf Hitler himself, Heinrich Himmler, and Joseph Goebbels had committed suicide when it was clear Germany had lost the war.
What was the judgement at the Nuremberg trials?
Of the defendants put on trial, eight were charged with conspiracy to wage aggressive war, while all 22 were charged with crimes against peace. 12 were found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging, though only 11 of these were carried out as Hermann Göring committed suicide the day before he was due to be hanged.
Three defendants were acquitted, while three were sentenced to life imprisonment, while the remaining three served between 10 and 20 years in prison.
Make sure you book your tickets to watch Nuremberg, releasing on the 14th November at select Cineworld cinemas.
