It’s been a while since rebelling monkeys have haunted our nightmares and our screens. If you discount that Robbie Williams biopic, anyway. Stepping over the boundaries of scifi and the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Primate is all the teeth and claws of a horror, and attendees of Cineworld’s Secret Screaming on Saturday night went absolutely rabid for it.
Primate lands at Cineworld on 30th January, with tickets soon to go on sale. Ahead of that, why not check out what Cineworlders thought of Primate at the advanced screening.
Dwayne Johnson (not that one) is speaking our language with his review of Primate. Make it sound like a cinema snack and we’re sold!
Well that was something! Ben, not your AVERAGE chimpanzee, it was a nice build up to the ultimate Terrorising and playtime for him, with the jawing joke, (no pun intended!) 😂.. gruesome and comedic, now that's a PICKnMIX! I thought Ben could have been saved but unfortunately not

It was also this X user’s perfect Pick N’ Mix.
Really liked it, good mixture of gore, tension, shocks and a real sense of peril

One word for Primate: visceral.
I think Visceral is the word? Funny, horrific, inventive all at the same time.

And what more could you want from a horror than this?
Good fun movie. A couple of grizzly deaths. Well worth the watch

A note for all producers: not all films need to be a million years long. Both Steve and Jon were here for this 90 minute banger. Though Robbie Williams is certainly on the brain…
Pretty good. A nice short film. Was abit disappointed when the rest of Take That didn't show up. 😀

Actually one of the best secret screenings you've done for a while! Good gory fun, pretty original, tense throughout, some shiny new faces and a snappy 90 minutes! Perfect Saturday night entertainment 👌

And Jon wasn’t the only attendee happy with the Secret Screaming choice. First timer Scott went ape for Primate.
Enjoyed it. My first secret screening 👌

It was also a strong start for gory films in 2026 where Charlie was concerned.
Great first gory movie of 2026 🙊🙊

Are you a Stephen King fan? Primate might just be the new Cujo.
Really enjoyed it , reminded me of cujo from Stephen king , quite gruesome to watch at times but thought it was a great film and well worth going

Sometimes the best movies are those that exceed our expectations. That was definitely the case for this X user – so much so they might just book to see it again!
Loved it! Such a fun movie for what it was. I didn't expect much from what the trailers gave, but I was happily surprised. Might have to give it a rewatch when it officially gets released 👀

To summarise…
Yes that’s a horror film
