A movie that has been long anticipated on these shores, The Toxic Avenger is about to wash up at Cineworld on the 29th August, with the latest Secret Screaming giving Cineworlders a preview of the comedy horror from Macon Blair last night.
An amalgamation of genres, this is a fantasy meets superhero movie with a dose of black comedy and plenty of splatter. Set in an alternative world, Winston Gooze – played by Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage – is a janitor who ends up in a freak accident that sees him transformed into a mop-wielding mutant vigilante. His victims? The worst kind of people: dodgy CEOs and gangsters.
Also starring Elijah Wood, Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige, this is a horror movie unlike any other if Cineworlders’ verdicts are anything to go by. See what they thought and book your tickets below.

For long term fans of Troma films, rest assured this Toxic Avenger reboot was a hit for Obi and had all the makings of the films that came before.
having watched endless Troma films as a teen i loved it - knowing humour, over the top gore, serious emotion. everything a Troma should be, with added Shaun Dooley! bring on 2oxic 2venger!

And Lorna and Logan were on board as long time stans, too.
I absolutely loved it , and have been a Troma fan for years , and to have this is amazing loved all the nods to Class of Nuke em high, and seeing Lloyd on the big screen.

These films are worthy of the Hollywood treatment.
Was peak!!! Troma films are always bonkers and it was the perfect Remake! Was so funny and was ace actually building the characters up for one in a film like that! Been waiting for this film for nearly 4 years and it was worth it!!!

Looking for something a bit fresh and, well, silly (in the best way) from your horror. The Toxic Avenger scratched that itch for David.
That was ace. Nice to see something different for once in terms of tone. A kitsch schlocky b-movie was just what was needed, none of this recycled jump scare horror nonsense

The Toxic Avenger seriously puts all the genres through its paces. They don’t call it a comedy horror for nothing.
10/10 for me! Absolutely hilarious!

Was so funny 🤣🤣🤣 Totally stupid, gory, bonkers, and ultimately a really, really fun ride 🤟🤟🤟

And just because it might not go ham on the jump scares, doesn’t mean it’s not filled with gore. Consider that box ticked!
Totally bonkers and Nutz 😉 Really enjoyed it, loads of fun and some nice gory moments for horror fans. May just have to go and see again 😁 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

While The Toxic Avenger seems unlike anything else, a couple of Cineworlders made some excellent comparisons.
It reminded me of movie 43 😂 it was very odd but funny, glad i stayed

Retro blast! Robocop meets Darkman

Ben’s already seen it twice, which is as good an endorsement as any.
This actually my second watch as I went to a screening of it last week and I actually enjoyed it MORE this time round! Whacky, goofy, gory but a bloody good time 🤩

And who doesn’t want to watch a movie that’s described as “goofy”? An adjective that needs to get back into popular circulation in our opinion.
Goofy and gory! Finally something different and totally unserious, great choice! 🤘
