The sound alone in Undertone will creep you out, big time. The story tracks paranormal podcast host Evy as she moves back into the family home to look after her mother, who is dying. Evy and her mother are the only characters we see on screen, the others are all off-screen, a device that ups the dread-factor very well. Evy is the sceptic, alongside co-host Justin, but she slides into a pit of fear and paranoia as she hears sinister noises, which can only be explained by the paranormal…
This Canadian film, fresh from awards and festival season, is out on 10th April, but Secret Screaming Cineworlders had a special sneak preview of the horror movie and got to watch it last night. Which means you get to hear Cineworld fan reviews first before you book.
So was it as sinister as it sounds?
probably the most demonic secret screaming ever. unsettling. incredibly immersive and full of tension. must be watched on the big screen and the surround sound is essential for the atmosphere.

sinister vibes with that A24 psychological twist. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The ‘most demonic secret screaming ever’ – that’s some accolade! And Crug agrees…
Definitely a slow burn horror movie, but the pay off is worth the wait, genuinely unnerving.

The audio effects really worked on Cineworlders.
I really liked it a lot. Excellent use of sound design & nerve shredding sounds used. It felt like the audio version of It Follows & the lead looked like a Jenna Ortega cross haha.

Haven’t been that unsettled by the ending of a horror movie for a long time…the use of audio completely messed with my senses! Which I loved. So much better than telegraphed jump scares!

In the top 10 scariest films I’ve seen. I wish there’d been a few more answers at the end. But tbf it’d be interesting to analyze as it is.

Would recommend anyone who wants to see it does so in cinema (or anywhere with surround sound), I think it really added to the experience.
While it unfortunately won't be shown in 4DX, you'll certainly feel a chill all the same.
I liked it. I also liked how the part of the cinema I was sitting in felt like it dropped by about Ten degrees as the weird stuff hit! Just a draft but like being in 4DX!

Undertone inspired Peter’s play on words.

That's ruined two nursery rhymes for me!
We’ll leave you guessing about the nursery rhymes! You can discover that dark delight for yourselves.

A big up for the film and another successful Secret Screaming. If that’s not enough encouragement for you to book tickets, then we are secretly screaming inside. Undertone is out on 10 April, and you can book tickets today. Deep dread is just a click away.
