The second Secret Screening of September at Cineworld brought Harris Dickinson’s directorial debut to the big screen last night. Urchin, which will be released in the UK this Friday on the 3rd October, is a gritty British drama that tells the story of an addict attempting to piece back together his life after hitting rock bottom.
Frank Dillane stars as Mike, a young man living on the streets of London and struggling with his drug addiction, his impulsivity leading him to a violent act that lands him in prison. Also starring Megan Northam, here’s what attendees of the Cineworld Secret Screening thought of the film.
One X user was a huge fan not only of Urchin, but Cineworld’s Secret Screening choices, and to that we say, thank you! Please come again!
i unabashedly love the range of Cineworld's secret screenings. i thought Dickinson shot this film beautifully and the film's meditative naturalism was a thoughtful contrast to the recent high-octane releases. cineworld please never stop taking risks on indie projects!! <3

They also had high praise for Harris Dickinson’s debut, including its stunning, unique visuals and authentic narrative.
Marc wasn’t disappointed either, applauding the story for showcasing someone at their worst and ambiguity around how he got himself there.
Film was good, it was different, a little arty but performances were very good. Someone trying to get out of a difficult position and you don't know how he initially got there.

I'd have seen on release anyway.
I was thinking it would be Smashing Machine or Roofman but good.
Johnny had all the applause not only for Harris Dickinson but also lead actor Frank Dillane.
Saw this last month. It’s great. A stunning debut from Dickinson and Frank Dillane is staggeringly good in it.

Over on Letterboxd...one user was a particular fan of the soundtrack. Honestly, when the tracks are lit, it really elevates the film experience.
Adam was here for both the acting and the incredible cinematography. There’s just something about indie movies and that gritty delicious haze.
Harv is all of us, because heck yes we are so ready for more director credits from Harris Dickinson. He also highlighted the tender way in which the story handles addiction.
Another Letterboxd reviewer also highlighted the importance of introducing more left field choices at our Cineworld Secret Screenings, introducing attendees to stories they may not otherwise gravitate towards. And Urchin was a hit with them!
Callum was incredibly moved by Urchin and Michael's journey towards a better life in a society that makes it so difficult to grow and heal from addiction.
Gareth was completely enthralled by Urchin, leaving the whole screening completely speechless once the credits began to roll.
Arriving in cinemas from 3rd October, Urchin is one not to miss as Harris Dickinson kickstarts a strong career as a director. We just hope he keeps acting, too!
