If you haven’t heard, Cineworld is celebrating a very special birthday, specifically its Unlimited membership. To commemorate Unlimited’s 25th anniversary, we’ve got an Unlimited Film Season happening, as well as giveaways and special offers. Today, though, it’s all about looking back at the journey so far with a timeline of Cineworld Unlimited. Join us on this trip down memory lane…
Unlimited membership allows you to watch as many films as you want every month for the same cost as just two regular tickets to the cinema. You also benefit from discounts on cinema snacks and drinks, as well as a selection of high street restaurant chains for a pre or post cinema meal.
July 2000 - Unlimited was born!
Unlimited was first launched by the UGC cinema chain, which Cineworld then went on to acquire in 2004. And we’ve kept Unlimited going ever since, committed to making it bigger and better than ever!
August 2011 - First Unlimited Screening
Be the first to get a front row seat at new releases before they even come out, we held our first Unlimited Screening on 22nd August 2011 with the Conan the Barbarian remake, starring Jason Momoa. This was followed up, on 18th October 2011 with the award-winning film, The Help.
Spring 2012 - Did someone say snacks?
The following year, Unlimited members could enjoy even more perks. Because what goes together better than watching a movie with snacks? Cineworld introduced the 10% off food and drink perk, boasting the supreme cinema experience.
November 2012 - Black Card launched
As a thank you for Unlimited members’ commitment to the silver screen, Cineworld introduced the Unlimited Black Card upgrade to members who surpassed 1 year. This includes bigger and better offers, including 25% off snacks and free access to 3D screenings.
June 2013 - First Unlimited Secret Screening
In the summer of 2013, we had our first Unlimited Secret Screening. Much like an Unlimited Screening, members could watch a new release before the rest of the world. This time, though, they wouldn’t know what they were watching until the lights went down and the movie started playing.
The first Unlimited Secret Screening Now You See Me on 17th June, 2013, followed by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on 4th December 2013.
Now we do both Unlimited Secret Screenings and Secret Screamings (horror movies for everyone to enjoy!).
May 2018 - New Restaurant Partners introduced
Cineworld gets that going to the cinema should be a big occasion. Grab a bite to eat before you head to your screening (and load up on snacks). In May 2018, Cineworld launched additional Unlimited offers with a bunch of top chain restaurants, including Bella Italia, Las Iguanas, Cafe Rouge.
January 2020 - First Bring a Friend Screening
Going to the cinema solo is strongly endorsed by us, but there's also so much joy in sharing watching something on the big screen. In January 2020, Cineworld allowed Unlimited members to bring a long a friend for free to an Unlimited Screening. This was for the movie Like a Boss.
October 2021 - Real Unlimited members featured in our ads for the first time
We always want to put our Unlimited members at the forefront of what we do, whether that's you sending in your verdicts on the latest Secret Screenings or weighing in on our polls and posts on our social channels. In October 2021, we decided to put you in front of the camera for our latest Cineworld ads, and you earned all the Academy Awards! Unlimited members dressed up as iconic film characters to tell you about tastecard.
7th August 2024
How long have you been a fan of movies? Would you say your passion goes as far back as birth? Because for one little lady, that's (sort of) exactly the case. Baby Lowri was born in one of Cineworld's cinemas in Newport while parents Sarah and Gareth were taking their first child to a screening of Sing 2. When Sarah's waters broke, team leaders Jacey and Andrew were on hand to help deliver Lowri, and Lowri has since been gifted a lifetime Unlimited membership.
September 2024 - Pizza Hut added to our Restaurant Partners
Do you remember that time where Jennifer Lawrence asked, "Where's the pizza?" in an interview. Well, Cineworld answered and in September 2024, Pizza Hut was added to the ever-growing list of restaurants you can eat at for less with Unlimited.
October 2024 - Digital Unlimited Card launched
For a smoother experience, we launched digital Unlimited cards in October 2024!
November 2024 - Free Superscreen upgrades and changes to Black Card
November was a busy month for Cineworld Unlimited. As well as being able to upgrade to Superscreen for free, we also reduced members' eligibility for a Black Card, able to access extra benefits after four months of membership.
May 2025 - More new resturants added
We brought Banana Tree, Chiquito, and Frankie & Benny's into the Unlimited fold, giving members even more options of places to dine before or after your screening – or at any time. You get 25% off all Unlimited Restaurant Partners at any time, 7-days a week
July 2025 - Unlimited turns 25!
Phew! That's a whole lot of blockbuster worthy action packed into 25 years since Unlimited first launched all the way back in 2000. As we go into the next 25 years, there's sure to be more amazing savings and offers for Unlimited members. Most important of all, your seat will be booked and ready for all the latest exciting releases.
