If it works for Disney, then why not Dreamworks? Don’t worry, a live action Shrek isn’t in the works (yet), but we are heading back to the Isle of Berk in a live action remake of the 2010 animation How to Train Your Dragon.
Directed by Dean DeBlois, How to Train Your Dragon charts a change in waters as the long since feuding Vikings and dragons might just become amicable. This comes as the son of the Chief, Hiccup meets and befriends a Night Fury dragon. Wrestling against the generation-spanning tradition of dragon fighting, Hiccup shows another side to the long feared dragons.
The dawn of Hiccup and Toothless, a beloved dynamic duo, How to Train a Dragon arrives at Cineworld on June 9, and here’s everything you could possibly need to know about this exceptional family movie.
Don’t forget, Cineworld is helping you to get sorted for Father’s Day with the How to Train a Dragon gift experience for 2, allowing you to experience the movie in 4DX with the gift pack also including ponchos to face the elements of the extreme cinema experience.

How to Train Your Dragon is Filmed for IMAX
Not simply optimised for those bougie cinema screens, How to Train Your Dragon has been given the full IMAX treatment. A Filmed for IMAX title, this means from pre-production to filming, set design, and post-production, everything has been filmed utilising IMAX technology to create something truly breathtaking on the giant screen.
How faithful is the live action How to Train Your Dragon to the original?
Of course, it’s a remake, so the story will be much the same as the original animation, just more life-like. In fact, some scenes were intended to be recreated right down to each shot, including when Hiccup and Toothless meet.
There were dragon puppets
Not simply added in in post-production, on set while filming puppets were used for the dragons in order for the animators to create something visually more authentic. This gave the actors something to work with, as well as allowing the cameraman to allow space for the dragons in the frame.
A How to Train Your Dragon live action sequel is already confirmed
