The Quidditch World Cup will be epic
Right at the beginning of the fourth Harry Potter film, the Weasley’s take Harry to his first ever professional tournament of Quidditch. Ireland take on Bulgaria, whom Viktor Krum famously plays for in the Quidditch World Cup. And if this isn’t an opportunity for 4DX to really shine, we don’t know what is.
The seats will be moving, the wind will be whipping past the broomstick riding players, and with the fireworks and foreboding Dark Mark eventually lighting up the sky, this may be a great opportunity for some interesting strobe lighting within the cinema, too.
The arrival of Durmstrange and the Beauxbatons
With the Durmstrang Institute ship surfacing the Great Lake, and the Beauxbatons Academy arriving by flying horse and carriage, the students arrival into Hogwarts could be both wet and windy as the school prepares to host the Triwizard Tournament, with both Viktor Krum and Fleur Delacour selected by the Goblet of Fire, alongside Cedric Diggory and Harry Potter, obviously.
Harry comes face to face with a Hungarian Horntail dragon
In the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, Harry must retrieve an egg under the nose of the dangerous Hungarian Horntail. The dragon famously breaks free of his shackles and hunts Harry across the grounds of Hogwarts, crashing into the Owlry and causing significant damage to the tiles… All while Harry must balance precariously on his Firebolt broomstick.
Expect to be thrown around your seat and – if it’s anything like experiencing Jurassic World Rebirth in 4DX – maybe get a whiff of what a dragon might smell like.
Dance and sway at the Yule Ball
Oh, isn't it just wonderful? Those awkward teen years where you can't decide if the opposite sex is absolutely revolting or completely your bag. Being then encouraged to dance with each other. Supressed feelings that turn into jealousy (we're looking at you, Ron). The moment Harry and Ron finally realised Hermione wasn't just "one of the lads". In 4DX, the chairs might just sway with the dancing students and bop to the beat of The Weird Sisters.
Dive to the depths of the Great Lake
The water effects will surely be in full effect for the second Triwizard Tournament task as the Champions must rescue somebody of value to them from the Great Lake, inhabited by merpeople, grindylows, and a giant squid. That said, if you’re submerged in water, are you really wet? Either way, this task – along with the rest – will be incredible to experience through 4DX, with the chairs mimicking the feeling of gliding through and the conflicts that take place within the murky waters.
Harry’s journey entering the Pensieve
Potterheads will know that this is just the first of many rodeos down the Pensieve in Dumbledore’s office for Harry Potter, returned to in Half Blood Prince. However, in Goblet of Fire, Harry dives in and witnesses Dumbledore’s memory as Igor Karkaroff, headmaster of Durmstrang, is questioned by Barty Crouch Senior about Voldemort’s following. This is an illuminating moment, both as Potions Master Snape is named, as well as Bary Crouch Junior, who Harry recognises as the man in his vision at the beginning of the film.
Cineworld’s 4DX experience offers immersive lighting along with its other sensory elements, so this could be a great way to capture the magic of existing in a memory, differentiating from the present day in the Goblet of Fire.
Voldemort’s resurrection at the end of the third Triwizard task
The showdown to end all showdowns, the Champions must wade through an enchanted maze and be the first to reach the cup. When Harry and Cedric dive for it at the same time, they’re not prepared for the inanimate object to actually be a portal that takes them to the graveyard from Harry’s vision.
This is the moment that Voledemort is resurrected and Harry first fights the Dark Lord. The light show that will take place in Cineworld could very well go down in history, as iconic as the clashing of Harry’s expelliarmus to Voledmort’s killing curse.
Don't be such a gillyweed, get on a book your tickets to experience Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 4DX for the very first time.
