Freakier Friday went head-to-head with Weapons this weekend at the box office. Two wildly different movies, while Weapons may have clinched it with a global debut of $70 million, Freakier Friday still earned itself $44.5 million – making director Nisha Ganatra's dreams come true with plenty of laughter filling the cinemas.
Speaking to Cineworld, Nisha Ganatra shared why seeing Freakier Friday (and movies in general) at the cinema is so important. "I'm a huge fan of laughing together in a theatre. I think if you come to the theatre, it's a really special thing. It bonds you together, it helps us all feel like we have a shared experience. And then comedies especially, it's more fun to laugh together than alone at home, you know?" Could Freakier Friday and The Naked Gun singlehandedly make comedies cool again?
Manny Jacinto, who plays Eric Reyes, Lindsay Lohan's new love interest in the Freaky Friday sequel, shared a similar sentiment of it bringing people together. "I think it's [Freakier Friday] one you can watch with your whole family, and it kind of just brings back that feeling of just being back in the theatre and just getting to step away from life for little bit, you know, and experience something freaky."
Freakier Friday sees Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis' characters Anna and Tess once again in body swap mayhem, this time finding themselves in the teenaged bodies of Anna's daughter Harper and soon-to-be-stepdaughter Lily – and vice versa. A movie filled with hilarity and mayhem, it's sure to be nostalgic and one to see with family and friends alike. Book your tickets and watch the full interview with Nisha and Jacinto below.
