Time for an upgrade! The sequel to the 2022 sci-fi horror hit has long been anticipated following multiple release date changes – but M3GAN is back. And if the trailer featuring songs from Britney Spears and Chappell Roan are anything to go by, it’s going to be truly iconic.
Arriving at Cineworld on June 27, we delve into everything you need to know about M3GAN 2.0 – equal parts science-fiction, horror, and female empowerment – including where the story of a murderous dancing doll is set to take us next, cast, and the latest trailer below.
The plot of M3GAN 2.0 and what’s happened so far
The events of M3GAN see Cady’s aunt, Gemma, build M3GAN in order to care for and protect her niece following the death of her parents. However, M3GAN takes her role to murderous ends, killing four people and perfectly bringing to screen irrational though no less real fears of AI turned sentient – all in a fun, TikTok dance trend kind of way.
Relegated to a harmless doll with no weapon wielding capabilities, M3GAN 2.0 is set two years later, with Gemma having created a career as an author on AI regulation. Go figure!
However, there’s a new, super stylish, killer AI robot on the scene and M3GAN might just need to be brought out of retirement in order to put a stop to AMELIA – a robot made by the military utilising stolen components from M3GAN, who ultimately turns on her creator to become a destructive, lethal villain. And the only person that can stop her is obviously M3GAN.
What is the M3GAN 2.0 release date?
It’s no wonder everyone’s asking when the sequel to M3GAN is coming out following multiple schedule changes. Originally meant to be released in January, then last month in May, M3GAN 2.0 will now be released on June 27 – so you really don’t have long to wait for this Femininomenon.
