The last few months have allowed many of us to reflect on the course of our lives. Therefore, the prospect of a brand new Disney-Pixar movie that looks inward to examine our spiritual essence will chime with millions around the world.
The movie in question is Soul, the latest from Inside Out Oscar-winner Pete Docter. The film focuses on Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a jazz artist and teacher who dies in an unexpected accident. He's then transported to the ethereal, enchanting realm where souls are formed, in essence coming to terms with himself, and the elusive quality that has propelled him on his life's journey.
It sounds like we need to grab those tissues and prepare for another emotional rollercoaster. And the film becomes even more tantalising in the following behind the scenes video, hosted by anthropologist Dr. Johnnetta Cole from the recent Essence Festival. She hosts Docter and a host of other key creative personnel, including screenwriter Kemp Powers and composer Jon Batiste, to address the diverse and topical nature of Pixar's latest project.
From African-American representation to the use of jazz as a storytelling motif, Soul carves out bold and exciting new territory from the geniuses who brought us Toy Story and countless other classics. Check out the video below.
Soul is scheduled for release on 20th November. Let us know @Cineworld if you can't wait to watch it.
