Matt Smith reveals one classic horror movie he’s never seen in interview for Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing

Sitting down to talk to Darren Aronofsky – of Black Swan and The Whale fame – about his latest directorial jaunt, Caught Stealing, and one its stars, Matt Smith, wasn’t afraid to admit that he’s never seen The Exorcist. We listen and we don’t judge!

No shame here! There’s a lot of movies out there – it’s hard to see them all, even if you’re an Unlimited member. And it turns out Matt Smith hasn’t seen arguably one of the most iconic horror movies out there.

Talking about what films they’d like to see brought back to the big screen (Cineworld is currently showing Jaws and will be screening The Sound of Music and GoldenEye soon!), Aronofsky revealed he’d recently been to see Cool Hand Luke (1967), while Matt Smith saw The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966). Then came Matt Smith’s confession.

“I’m sort of revealing my ignorance, but I’ve never seen The Exorcist,” adding that he avoided it, aware of how terrifying it was said to be.
He continued, “In the last five years I’ve really got into horror movies.” Well, now is the time.

In the interview, Aronofsky and Smith also talked about the significance of New York City as a location in Caught Stealing, and how Smith got into character in a role we’ve never seen him in before. Spoiler alert: he has a mohawk!

Alongside Matt Smith, Caught Stealing stars Austlin Butler, Regina King, and Zoë Kravitz in a crime thriller that takes cat sitting to a whole other level. Punk rocker Russ (Smith) asks Hank (Butler) to look after his cat while he’s away in London, only for Hank to find himself caught up with Russian drug dealing gangsters.
