Novocaine – Everything you need to know about the brilliant new action comedy showing at Cineworld

If you love high-octane thrills with a generous helping of wisecracks, then it’s time to get excited, as the brilliant new action-comedy Novocaine is opening at Cineworld this week (28 March). Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, this much-talked-about movie stars Jack Quaid as a mild-mannered bank employee who’s called into action when a gang of robbers kidnap his female colleague…

Tickets for Novocaine are on sale now, but why should you come and see it? To whet your appetite, we’ve rounded up some of the key details, from what it’s about to what people have been saying about it…

It has a fresh and exciting plot

It’s always nice to see a film that has an original plot, and the Novocaine storyline is like a breath of fresh air. Nate Caine (Jack Quaid) is just your average bank worker, apart from one thing – he’s unable to feel pain. Initially, he feels awkward about his condition, but it ends up coming in rather useful after a gang of thugs pull off a heist at the bank where he works, taking his colleague and love interest Sherry (Amber Midthunder) hostage in the process. With Caine immune to punches, kicks and any other kind of physical punishment, he’s the ideal candidate to mount a rescue…

Jack Quaid is absolutely brilliant

Whoever was responsible for casting Jack Quaid in the role of Nate Caine deserves a huge pat on the back, as we can think of no one better to play the unassuming action hero. Whether he’s schmoozing with Sherry in a diner or brawling with bad guys over a deep fat fryer, he has a glint in his eye that keeps us on side the whole time. We probably shouldn’t be surprised that he’s so good, as his parents are none other than acting legends Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid. Speaking of Sherry, the actress who plays her, Amber Midthunder, can also be seen in the psychological thriller Opus, currently showing at Cineworld.

It's available to watch in immersive 4DX

What better way to enjoy an action movie than by being part of the action yourself? That’s the sensation you get with 4DX, which combines motion – you’ll feel your seat tilt, rock and vibrate – with a whole range of other sensory effects, including wind, water, strobe lighting and authentic smells. There are so many great action sequences in Novocaine, from car chases to fight scenes, that watching it in this special format is wholly recommended!

The trailer looks great

The trailer for Novocaine came out just before Christmas, and immediately set tongues wagging among movie lovers. The clip may have only lasted two and a half minutes, but there was more than enough action, comedy and crackling chemistry between the two leads to get anticipation levels soaring. Take a look for yourself and see what you think.

People have been raving about it

Every so often, Cineworld puts on special ‘Secret Screening’ events, where film fans are invited to buy tickets for a movie without knowing in advance what it’s going to be. Our most recent one, on Saturday 15 March, saw those in attendance treated to a preview screening of Novocaine – and judging by the comments on social media afterwards, they absolutely loved it. “Very entertaining”, “superb fun” and “action-packed” were just some of the phrases used – if you come to see it, we’d love to know if you agree with them!
